MRZ pulley question?

I've been reading posts on the pulley and I'd like someone to clear this up for me, I know I could do a search but there is so much to search I figured I'd just ask. The stock pulley does it act as a harmonic balancer or damper and if so would messing with it affect the life of the engine. Cause I was talking it over with a buddy of mine and I had a neon with a underdrive pulley and maybe a couple of months after installing the pulley I threw a rod. At the time no one could tell me what caused it. Yesterday when I was talking to my friend he mentioned that if the pulley acts as a balancer, that changing it could create vibrations and you could perhaps throw a rod. When he said that it clicked in my head and made me think of my neon. So I'm wondering if someone could explain this whole thing to me, because I was interested in the mod, but if it's going to make something out of wack I'm not going to do it.

Well it does in fact act as a balancer. The MRZ pulley, if good quality should be pretty balanced though. THe problem is no one has any real info on it without logging miles.

I fail to see the damage to come out of these pulley's if they are balanced already... and they aren't causing vibrations.

Really that is the main thing that I don't get. Pulley acts as a balancer, got it. Aftermarket pulley gets installed, might throw off balance mess things up make engine go boom, got it. If MRZ did a good job of balancing their pulley would it work as good as the stock pulley? Or are there any other things that I need to take into account. Any chance of mrz chiming in with some info and maybe some reassurances?

Excuse me if I'm being overly paranoid or difficult.

I know the one guy that got one already seems to be pleased. But I'm just worried about long term reliability.

I really think we just need to log a few more miles.

Once he gets to about 5k miles I think we will know for sure.
