My Autocross Experience with the Injen CAI
My Autocross Experience with the Injen CAI
So I ran in an autocross event yesterday here in Pittsburgh. I have a 2.4L auto with just a DC Sports strut bar and Injen CAI.
Didn't do too bad for a first-timer. I was about 2.38 seconds behind an Ion RL and Cobalt SS/SC. My best time on this course was a 58.384 (just to give you an idea of how relative that 2.38 seconds is).
I had 5 runs for the day... first two I did in Drive. The third and fourth I ran in Drive but clicked the e-brake up one notch to turn the TC off. I'm not a fan of this, but I figured it couldn't hurt for 2 minutes. Well, after my fourth run, I got a CEL. I figured it was from the e-brake and/or TC (I was sliding around like crazy). So for the fifth run, I had already decided to run in I so that I'd see a little quicker get up on the acceleration. However, I was afraid of the CEL, so I didn't click the e-brake for my fifth run. I had my fastest time in my fourth run.
So the whole ride home I had the CEL. I figured, eh, I'll let it go and it should go away after some normal driving. Well I still had it today. I wasn't really concerned. I figured after about 20 normal start up cycles it should go away. Well I'm impatient (and curious) so I took it to AutoZone today after work. I had the guy read the code and reset it. Turns out it was a P0171.... lean code. After all that, it was just a lean code. Had I known that, I would've run that fifth run with the TC off.
So this is the first time I've heard of a 2.4 getting the lean code with an Injen CAI. Anybody else get it? I guess it must've been from running it so hard yesterday. I checked the intake to make sure it was fine. Nothing loose on it... so that's all good.
On another note, I think I'm going to invest in a code reader. It might come in handy. Ahhhh... the ability to erase my CEL codes....
PS. For those who care, here are videos of my 3rd, 4th, and 5th runs. I'm waiting for someone else to upload my first and second runs as well as second videos of my 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

Here's a nice pic someone took of me yesterday too...

Update: After watching the videos, we saw that the redline was off course on his best run. The spotters missed it. This means I actually beat the redline. He was about a second behind me. A Cobalt SS/SC beat me still. She was only a few hundredths of a second behind what we thought was the best time for the redline. So she still had me by about 2.8 seconds.
I also purchased a code reader today online. If I get that lean code again, I can clear it. No one else has gotten that code with an Injen CAI on their 2.4?

Dan I beat the crap out of my car this weekend racing a Spec V about 10 times, an RSX a few civics and what not. No CELs so far. I will see you guys at the next autocross at NP and see if we get one there. BTW I have the VEctor Tune so that may be a factor as well for no CELs.

A few weeks back at the 1/8th mile track my cel came on. Later I found the intake was loose from the throttle body (really loose
). So not sure if was cause of that or a lean code but it turned off the next day.
