I wanted to know which car or model the shift light in the speedo worked?

And I also wanted to know if it's possible to make it work...I have a 2006 2.4 and I never saw it working.

If it's possible, what do I have to do ?

OEM shift light? Only "OEM" Shift light is the RPD unit that has a build in thing like a shift light. I'm pretty sure it will work on any car by sending a signal at a certain rpm to the light to turn it on.

Yes, the + sign...the one in the speedo, at the right of the flashers light...can it be done to make it work?

It works, just redline the car really high and it will come up.....
How i know, I accidentally went from 4th to 3rd couple times accelerating, and the light came up.

 

It worked on my manual LS in 2006. Was basically to help shift for mileage.

Totally wish someone would unlock it in a tune for use.

 

I beleive in SS models it is used only for what it deams over revving, for base models its an economy shift light and super annoying. I've read that somewhere and owned 3 deltas that confirm it.

2008 G5 base- shift light worked for low rpm/eco
2005 Cobalt base - shift light worked for low rpm/eco
2010 SS/TC- Never seen it light up

 

Ok, so no way to make it happen at a certai RPM with loke HPT?

 

I have not heard of it. At one point we discussed Trifecta trying to find it.

I own HPTuners. I pulled 4 or 5 base tunes for 2.4 in 2006 and 2007 and found absolutely nothing related to shift light. It'd be nice though...

Im 90% sure that you can turn it on in hpt

and you can adjust when it comes on

mine is a 06 le5 and it only comes on at 7200

 

im kinda confused then. im my old car the shift light would light up as it should but in my 08 sport cobalt i dont believe there is a shift light. tho i have never looked close enough to tell. my old car was an 08 cobalt ls. wonder if its a bulb thing or tuning thing

 

the LED in the cluster should be there, cause they wouldnt use 2+ different clusters just with/without a shift light.

I looked today I see the light on my cobalt sport but it never lights up lol. Wonder what the deal is

I found a setting in my 2.2 auto tune I'm going to play with in HPT and see what happens.

 

My 06 LT did, my 09 SS does not, even when over revved. I know because I accidentally went from 3rd to 2nd and tapped 7k for a split second. Thanks for the new head GM!

But back on topic. That "shift light" is going to be just as slow as the OEM gauges are since they're on the same low speed bus, and therefore not very useful as a shift light since it'll turn on way after you set it. The boost gauge is the easiest to notice since it's the quickest to change, but the speedo and tach are the same.

 

Results: changing the "lamp on" rpm changed nothing on the car, even after doing a write entire. Not sure about manual cars though.

 

So is it possible to have it working?

 

I'm going to say no. If there were a manual car nearby that wanted to let me screw around with the settings in their tune I would gladly do it and post results, but it does nothing on my auto even though the light is in my instrument cluster.

 

My shift light is the indicator for my race gas map.
