Piped out LE5
So the other day I was bored and decided to remove the muffer in leu of a straight pipe. Now every time I drive it I have a huge smile on my face. Best 16 bucks I have ever spent! Since I liked the sound I got a cheap stainless tip. The noise it makes when I downshift into second "L" at about 70 is undeniably the loudest 4 cylinder I think on the planet. I left in the cat and resonator. The car doesn't sound raspy, just sounds fast and loud, even thought the power gain is .001 hp. I would definitely reccomend it to anyone that is looking to rice out their 2.4. lol I have a video but a buddy put in on facebook so I don't know how to get it off of there. I'll make another one soon and post it up on youtube or something so anyone looking for some noise has an example.
y would u want to rice out ur cobalt?its not a honda
to the OP i did basicly the same thing but i have a gutted muffler im going to install hopefully soon. people like him and i may not look for the performance gains especially in a automatic but its for the sound. i know i ran auto-x and i would tear the backroads up alot and i just loved hearing the sound of the car. he may be the same way. also to the OP i have a before and after video right here. i hate when people bash on other people for things they want to do with their car. my opinion is like the OP. it sounds great.

The 2.2 sounds completely different from the Le5 when it has no muffler. Im not for it, but the le5 dosnt sound "as" bad. The 2.2 sounds like straight ass. Ive heard both in person and the 2.4 honestly has no rasp.
Auto wouldn't sound as loud as a manual unless you are shifting, but even then it won't have the same tone. There is this ******* in a older jag around here that drives around in first (auto), revving the **** out of his engine. lol. I'm just waiting for it to throw a rod or something else out the oil pan.
Auto has that annoying section of daily driving acceleration where the rpms stay mostly constant as the torque converter is locking up which makes the car still accelerate but the exhaust note isnt changing.
I like the sound and make my transmission shift like a manual and it has a great sound when it shifts. I'm glad there's a few people that like the sound of exhaust. I also think my mpg increased by .01mpg so it's soooo worth it! lol
Oh and also, they don't do emmissions inspections here in Minnesnowta, unless you get pulled over and they figure out that you aren't running a muffer/cat then you get multiple warnings. lol

I'm 20 and I am almost through with school to become a mechanic, so I'll be able to fix the tranny when it takes a crap. Very good idea about the CAI. haha Well I'm sorry everyone is getting so offended about my hack job exhaust.
