Question on Cam Sensor ??
Question on Cam Sensor ??
So today on my way home from school the check engine light turns on. I thought about my exhaust but its just a cat back so i took it to autozone to get the code checked. The code that was throw was a CAM SENSOR FAULT. I placed my order at Gmpartsdirect.com for a new one today. should arrive in about 2-4 days.
the questions are....
1) how long would it be safe to drive the car until i recieve the part? its my only vehicle at the time.
2) how hard would it be to replace this ?
3) has anyone else had this happen to them??
thanks guys in advance for the info/help.

More importantly, did you clear the trouble code, drive the car, and have the same code come back before ordering a new part? Does the CEL stay lit? While you're answering these questions I'll get the factory service manual out and answer your other questions.....
Considering you are able to drive your Cobalt the sensor CEL/DTC could have been a one-time glitch. The ECM picks up a cam sensor fault in 1-second of engine run. If the intake cam sensor was bad you'd probably be in limp mode. Make sure of which sensor it is -- int or exh. Wouldn't hurt to check that the sensor is securely fastened and it certainly wouldn't be a bad idea to take it out and inspect it for damage. It is held in by one bolt and has an o-ring seal -- just be careful not to damage the o-ring.
