Short throw question

Besides the benifits of needing to move the shifter less to engage the gears, does a short throw shifter make shifting smoother. The reason I am asking is because a friend of mine drove my car a while ago and he was shocked at how much effort it took to engage the gears. He has a VW jetta, I have never driven it but he said there is no effort needed to engage the gears like in the cobalt. The first time he shifted in my car he took it out of first and left it in neutral thinking that it was in second, he was surprised when the car just revved and didn't accelerate, lol. I was kinda shocked too, i thought he knew how to drive standard. So is the effort required to engage the gears coming from the shifter or something in the tranny?

Sounds to me like your buddy is used to a shorter throw...I've driven VWs with STS and to be honest...it feels like a standard shift to me.

Get a TWM...best 100 and something dollars I ever spent...you will LOVE it...and it has nothing to do with the linkage so it will be just as...

...listen your question don't make sense so try makin some sense.

The difference from first to second with the TWM is like from first to neutral...

So are you asking about how much effort it takes for it to actually get into gear?

If that is what you are asking, honestly that will vary from car to car(i.e. cobalt to cobalt)

Yes, that is what i am asking. To me it doesn't seem like it takes an overwhelming amount of effort to shift between gears. But if it can become smoother I would like to be able to take advantage of it.

If you want a STS get one for a 00-05 Cavalier. You can get one on Ebay for $40 shipped.
