Speed help

ok so i was on the highway and this guy tried to cut me off naturally i accelerate and surprisingly so does he. I have only had this car the 2007 chevrolet cobalt ss for abotu a week so i havent done anything to fast on it yet. so i decide to go for it pedal all the way to the ground in 5th gear and im going 105-110 ish. i dont remember the rpms i was at but i know i have 171 at like 6200 or something and im pretty sure i wasnt at 6200. any suggestions on how i could have gone faster? btw my first stick shift car.

Maybe be in 4th gear instead of 5th. Would have been accelerating faster.

downshift next time. I was on the highway doing about 65 or 70 and some guy started to screw with me. downshifted into 3rd from 5th and took right off. shifted in to 4th and shut it down at almost 120. woo hoo.

3rd should be good for about 95 mph and 4th should take you to 120mph.

thnks guys ill know better next time and i didntdo tht only becuz last time i hit 80 in 4th gear i pushed the clutch down to throw it in 5th and i got this burnt smell out of my engine it wasnt clutch i was just burning smell any ideas on that one? 80 mph around probably 5rpms foot off gas clutch to the floor burnt smell. odd? someone said it might have been oil

also my bad but any little add ons i can do to the engine to increase that top speed or acceleration was thinking of supercharging but idk how much does that hurt the engine? im a college student this is my commute car and ide like to have it for a good long while.

Well there are many threads that discuss this topic. I believe that an intake and cat-back exhaust will net you about 10-15 hp at the crank, depending on which intake and exhaust you choose.
