Turbo Gauges

ok i have a couple questions bout some gaues im gonna get... so what i have lined up so far is a boost vacuum gauge....( with this should i get just a boost gauge or the combo like im looking at right now....i believe 30PSI should be adeqaute....next i have an oil pressure gauge....( should i get oil pressure or oil temperature...).....and lastly i have a wideband A/F ratio gauge picked out....( i kno this one is critical).......

----now keep in mind all these gauges are for my upcoming turbo and im trying to get the gauges that are most important and will benefit me most...also all these gauges are autometer cobalt series gauges....the wideband im guessing is a good one ( it better be for the price.. ) --- thanks for ne help and i expect NJHK to chime in on this one...

Oil pressure would be more important then temp but they are both good things to keep an eye on. One thing I would personally add is an egt temp gauge.

I agree.

And yes, I'll chime in

First, what company / brand were you looking to get for the Wideband?

Personally, and I've said this many of times, get the Zeitronix unit. It will display your a/f ratio, boost, lambda & egt. The benefit is that it's very low profile to have and saves you on having 800 gauges all over the place lol.

Go to www.zeitronix.com for more info on it.

Oil pressure is very important. Too much oil pressure and bye bye oil seals (learned the hard way).

I didn't know they made boost gauges that didn't display the vacuum. Well, if they do, don't get it. You want to know if you're boosting alright and if you're responding well. For all you know, a coupler could blow and you're not producing any pressure above atmospheric, it's nice to know how close to atmospheric you are reaching.

If you see a gauge that displays the "negative" symbol and goes backwards in numbers, that's the vacuum pressure. I touched upon that in the Turbo FAQ (might wanna read up on that if you haven't already).

Any other questions?

thats NJHK for the info.....the wideband im looking at is autometers digital wideband A/F ration gauge.....its damn expensive but at least i know it will match....so then oil pressure and the boost/vacuum gauges are necessary then....one more question with the oil pressure...what would be the standard PSI it should be at?

For the 2.4 motor, i don't know what the stock oil pressure is.

I'm glad I could help with the other questions though.

my oil pressure varies alot on my 2.4 with my mods listed below, heres a general breakdown:

at cold start in idle = 60 psi
warmed up at idle = 20 psi
cruising at low speed = 25 psi
wot = 60 psi

it just really varies

honestly i dont see the oild pressure gauge quite as important as the others....i might just go with 2 gauges instead...the wideband and a boost gauge.....and o yea can someone please tell me if the a/f wideband gauge offered on autometer's site is in fact a true wideband?....ive heard it both ways

the one thats a traditional looking "cobalt series" gauge is a narrowband, the digital "cobalt series" gauge is the wideband as you will see the wideband price associated with it.
