Turbo + Nitrous?
Turbo + Nitrous?
Someday here soon im going to get the ZZP Stage 2 turbo kit. It adds about 120HP to my 2.4L SS. Now I was wondering if it would be safe to run nitrous in tandem with the turbo. I don't have any internals and I just want to make sure my block can handle that much power. I would only run a 50 shot or maybe less just to spool up the turbo into its powerband.
Also after I get the turbo I plan on getting some 60# injectors and a catback. Then i'll be done with my car.
This would hopefully bring me to my 300WHP+ goal.
Any thoughts? Is it safe? Should I upgrade my internals?
Who has ran nitrous with FI? Any feedback?

I wouldn't go nitrous on stock internals coupled with the turbo. I don't know for absolute sure, but I don't think the stock stuff in the 2.4 can handle all that added pressure/heat etc. Just bolting on the turbo alone is alot of added power the engine wasn't "designed" for from the factory. I'm sure if i'm wrong one of the other 2.4 or more knowlegable turbo guys is gonna let me know tho...

I would urge against it.
If you are doing a direct port nos.
The plastic intake mani will be your weak spot.
I've seen pleanty of cobalts have nitrous back fires, and blow that plastic intake mani sky high. So, if you do, get a purge kit.
With that said, I've heard that the plastic intake mani has a limit of 15psi. HAHN says they've ran some solstices over 20psi.
If I were you, do like me and just get a nitrous intercooler sprayer. This will be the safest possible that im thinking.
Doing anything related to turbo's on these cars since they werent designed for turbos is sketchy.
You always have to worry about if the tune will support such a mod.
I was hesitant about using my boost controller. I am hesitant about buying/using meth.
It all comes down to "will the car handle it".
The motor/trans will take it fine. But its everything else you need to worry about!

Would you consider meth inj. a good idea? Im definatly getting a purge for the nitrous put where should I spray, IC only?
I pan on this being my daily driver for at least a year as well, so I don't want anything to crazy, the nitrous would be track only and maybe a couple setup street races but I dont plan on filling my bottle for then a few times.
If your not going above 10psi, you shouldnt have to worry about your intake mani at all.
As long as you dont **** a 100 shot in it, you'll be ok.
But assuming your at 250whp, and you throw a 100 shot, you'll be lookin at 325whp - 335whp. The question you should ask is "Do I think my car will hold up to 335whp".
I personally say yes.
As for the hahn mani, im pretty sure its a direct fit. I know the site says some modification required, but i dont think its much, if any.
Id personally only spray the IC. So all your doing is just lowering your iat numbers. You wont yield much, but you'll yield some, plus the turbo spool will help.
Im personally going to be fabbing up my own meth kit, as i dont see the point in spending $300+ for something that I can make myself for under $50.
Im not going to preach to you about street racing, as I do it from time to time as well. However, I personally think nos in a street race is stupid..unless theres money on the line.
If i had a race for $1000. Id pump my boost controller the absolute max..in hopes it doesnt go boom.

I would never run a 100shot after boosting my car, thatd be stupid.
My 50shot than I plan on using should bring it over 300WHP pretty easily.

I should be close to 270-290whp just with the turbo, full exhaust, intake, and other little goodies. Considering right now im at 160whp and the turbo claims to add 120HP at 8psi without exhaust and im going to tune it to 10psi and get full exhaust.

The turbo kit replaces your intake.
If its the ZZP, i hope you get the intercooled one.
Exhaust will help yes.
The only thing id be worried about @ 300whp+ is your fuel pump.
Im waiting to see what mine does after i install some gauges.
(Waitin for my Fuel Pressure Gauge to make sure my fuel pump is keeping up)
The 120hp it adds is not going to be much in whp.

Stage 2 adds 8 psi and 120 HP [Im going to boost 10psi]
Includes:
Bullseye T56 turbo
Powdercoated charge piping
Liquid/air Intercooler
All stainless and aluminum tubing
Includes 304 stainless 2.5" downpipe
ZZP 304 stainless turbo manifold
All feed and drain oiling lines
Turbonetics silicon boots
Stainless clamps
Custom tuned PCM
TiAL 38mm wastegate kit
Blow off valve
All installations accessories
39# injectors [Im going to replace with 60#]
Intake tubing and filter
Spark plugs
---
ZZP wit the stage 1 kit made 239WHP at 7psi, no intercooler, 38# injectors, and full exhaust
So with the stage 2 at 10psi, with IC, piping, 60#, exhaust, etc I should see a decent amount over 250whp, most likely close to 270whp.
My only problem is money, and upgrading before I spray is going to be very expensive and time consuming just so I can use a 50shot. I think it's a better Idea for me to wait and see if anything breaks and just replace it with better and stronger parts.

If i remember correctly, dual stage nos kits allow you to run 2 nozzles.
1 would be a 30 shot, one could be a 50shot.
This is to provide a lower boost down low, until you tell it for stage 2, then it'll be 50
