weird rpm's
My problem is slowly coming back. It took two months, but now it is doing it once or twice a week. I have NOT taken the "mid-year update" yet, but I'll be going to the dealer soon and will try it. Maybe DaBuzzard has it correct and they have fixed the overcompensation in the mid-year update.
Hey. I've got the 06 Ion 2.4 and mine has been doing this almost since I bought it. Picked it up in July of this year used, and with 39k miles, I ran it to 45 in a month and lost my warranty. The day after my warranty expired, the rpm's began to climb. Some days, its fine. Other days, I have to call off work cuz it throws the APP code, the TPS codes. Actually, below are the "normal codes" I get.
For a while it was happening every other weekend like clockwork and by Monday afternoon it was fine, but it has picked up in frequency to twice a week. Its been to the dealer, who tried to sell me a grossly overpriced TB and BCM. The don't have a clue. I don't know what revision my software is, but this is ridiculous.
I can write AppleScript and Java, yet I can't figure out an 8-bit computer software bug. If you guys are sure the software reflash will fix it, I'll do it in a heartbeat. Would a chevy dealer service my Saturn though? The Saturn dealer will never get my business again after the games they played with me. I'm just afraid its gonna ruin my clutch by either having to wait the shift out or missing shifts all the time.

Not the same issue we have been having.
This sounds like a problem with the TAC on the TB. First thing I would do is clean it, clear the codes, then do an idle relearn. Check all the connections at the TB as well.
If that does not help then you might have to replace the TAC - not sure if it is available seperate or if you need to replace the entire TB.
This thread seems to describe your issue exactly, solution was new TB

Months later. I replaced both my TB and APP Assembly, did the relearn, and it is WORSE. It is the same issue you guys are having. Did the reflash actually help anyone? I drive 1000 miles a week and this is killing my gas mileage and my clutch. And there's no way to sell a car that runs like this. Needing a solution cuz GM doesn't seem to believe there is a problem.
I'm taking mine in for the two recalls, so I'll have them do the reflash and let you know. It has been much better with the new throttle, but still does it from time to time. As noted before, it only does it with the a/c on.
I'll post back when I get off my ass and do the reflash...

Mine does it all the time. Let me know how it goes for you. I just pulled off my intake and checked the TB. the TB is like 4 months old and is already black and gross-looking. Not sure if that means anything.
I cleaned mine to no avail. If you read through, that never helped. Neither did cleaning the intake or the PCV and EGR. The surging that is usually associated with all of those being dirty or stuck is not anything like what this problem is. This is a climb in RPM, like you pressed the throttle, not a surging, which is usually less than a second in duration.
I figured, I was just afraid I'd gotten something in mine from putting the intake on. Not driving mine today, cuz I've got a rental. I took a free upgrade to a Trailblazer. Definitely a smooth ride. Mine is in the shop getting the rear replaced. Got nailed a couple weeks ago in the butt. Hope to get it up to Saturn this weekend when it comes back.
Oddly enough, the body shop that is doing my repair also owns an engine shop and they seem to know what's wrong. Its going under the "knife" April 4th, so we shall see if they can solve this mechanical nightmare.
