What better air does

Well it made my car a hell of alot faster! Read on and I'll post results.

Most race nights in Calgary the density altititude is 4800-5100 ft. Due to the cooler temp and higher presure last night it was about the best it cold ever get in Calgary.

Air conditions 7pm

Temp 50
Humidity 77
Dew point 46.4
Pressure 30.1

Density Altitude = 3490 feet

Absolute Pressure = 26.635
Relative Density 89.23

Modular depot is near the same: 3472 ft

http://www.modulardepot.com/density.php

Previous times was 16.06 @ 87.19mph (5109 ft density altitude)

New time is: 15.72@91.68 mph (3490ft--and that still not at sea-level!)

which BTW corrects to:
NHRA correction
15.72 0.9575 15.05
91.68 1.0437 95.68

which is almost identical to previous correction numbers because you don't correct as much at the lower altitude. Now on to Mission BC--altitude sea-level

The problem is - you'll rarely if ever actually get to race in sea level conditions, even if the track is at sea level. Case in point, this coming weekend I'll be heading down to Englishtown for the national event. If the weather is like it normally is there (hot and disgusting) the density altitude will be 2500-3500 feet all weekend, even though englishtown is physically right about at sea level.

PS: I didn't get to get any runs on the Cobalt this weekend - I checked Lebanon Valley's site Saturday night to double check and they had some nostalgia stuff going on so I couldn't go! Good thing I didn't drive all the way up there....

I realize that--awful conditions raises the density altitude where ever you are. But if conditions are okay to good a sae-level track can be at or close to sea-level.

Ok - just making sure you realized that. The flip side is that very rarely there are some "mine shaft" conditions to be found.....I've been at the track times when the DA is -1000 feet! Thats quite the difference in racing conditions when just 2 months earlier the norm was 3000' feet.
