What size turbo??

Ok so, i graduate around june from high school + its my 18th birthday on the 21st (yes its along ways away) but my parents have decided to hold a grad party for me and to give me 1000 bucks for grad+ birthday presents, so ill have around 2000-2500 bucks + full time working wage of $10/hour, meaning my plan when i graduate is to turbocharge my cobalt.

now..im somewhat of a noob when it comes to forced induction but i am learning very quickly, i have choosen to do a 2500 word essay on the combustion engine and forced induction to help myself learn on this very complex thing, in the mean time i need a favor from my favorite online community!

Looking at garret turbos last night i stumbled across the vast selection of sizes they have, now my question is, what size will fit the best and work the best inside my 2.4L Displacement engine??

any suggestions/thoughts are glady welcomed!!

If you are actually going to study up on forced induction systems, you will probably be able to figure out what type of turbo to go with anyways. Theres alot more than just "size" to consider.

i did that in class and read up on turbochargers/superchargers, turns out turbochargers are 100 times more effective then superchargers, only problems turbos run into is turbo-lag and the fact that they are alot more harmfull to your engine ESPECIALLY a N/A putting a turbo on, thats why i am wondeirng, i dont want my pistions to rocket thro my hood the first time i spool up

Gt28r, It can support up to 360hp which is more then enough for a stock cobalt motor.

just go with a t3/t4 turbo, they can support up to 400whp and you can get one of ebay for like 500 bux! that will be the cheapest way to go and will put out good power rusults! good luck

go to garretts website. they have a whole bunch of information on turbo tech. No offense but if you need to ask all this about turbos and engines maybe you should stay away from it a while. Or let the pros do it.

turbos are not 100 times as efficient as superchargers. corky bell has a good book out for superchargers and turbos. wiki isnt a real source for honest material since people write the "answers" up. hell in college we were not allowed to use it as a source for that reason.

here ya go, order some books or head to hastings or barnes n noble http://www.bellengineering.net/Pages...cts_books.html

best place to learn about turbos is garretts tech section...tell you anything and everything you could want to know about a turbo....as for what trims are....if your looking at garretts line stay in the gt30 class....i miyself have already chosen a turbo for my project....its an older turbo but will e plenty sufficient for what i want.....the best place to start is ask your self what power levels you want to achieve and then go from there
