where does the .4 come from ??
compared to the supercharged version, is it bore or stroke?

According to GM's website:
2.0l - bore 86mm, stroke 86mm
2.2l - bore 86mm, stroke 94.6mm
2.4l - bore 88mm, stroke 98mm

I assume you are talking about 2".4" liter vs. the 2.0 liter in the SS. If this is the case, it is just the displacement of the motor 2.0 = 122 cubic inches compare to the 2.4= 146 cubic inches.
**if you want to get technical 2.0L=122.04749 Cubic Inches
2.4L=146.45699 cubic inches.
Simply put the 2.4 is slighly higher displacement engine than the 2.0. I dont know for sure but it probably has a slightly lareger bore and slightly longer stroke, or a combination of same bore larger stroke, larger bore same stroke. hope this helps.
