..automatic transmissions? Is it preferred, or is it just THAT much better than the manual?

Enlighten me, I'm still learning on Cobalt/G5 transmissions.

But you gotta figure, theres only a dozen of us in North America that are turboed autos that are daily driven...

Plus, its nice to say "Atleast I didnt miss shift"

Funny that you say that, mine "misses" second quite a bit

I think it's just he amount of power I put to first gear, it'll rev to redline and bounce the limiter once or twice before its able to shift into second.

I'm currently looking at/for an 06 or 07 SS 2.4. Manual

Hahn turbo kit, full exhaust, call it a day. that's all that would be done engine-wise. Just something to have fun with taking to work. No raising PSI, no nothing.

Should be good for a DD, rain, shine, or snow.

It all depends, seems as though most of the 2.4 modders are most interested in straight line racing and/or wanted an auto instead of a manual but still wanted to turbo their cars.

With that said, ive noticed that in drive gear....if your slow, then gently ease onto the gas...you'll go up to 60+mph...

but than again, easy on the gas in Drive, you start off in 2nd..not first...

but when in I with the turbo, regardless of speed, if i mash it, it'll bounce off the red line for a second or so, then grab....which is nice, because it builds to about 5psi before it grabs.

As sad as it is, 1/4 mile racing is by far the least driving skill in any of the auto events...its all about who can shift right, and whos car has more horsepower...

Than again, I road race on a regular basis, and i regularly beat 400+whp SRT4's..and im only at 260whp...ya..they pull on me on those straight aways...but i pass them again in the turns...

with that said, the popular basis to decide on how fast yoru car is, is based off of 1/4 mile times...

not 1/8 mile...1/4's

Compared to the tranny in the 5sp NA, the AT can hold ALOT more power. Plus autos tend to hold boost better between shifts.

the hahn kit has its issues via the auto, but a manual shouldnt have them.

trust me, with the stg 2 turbo kit, even on a stock 2.4, is still a quick friggin car (should be low 14's. higher 13's..

its enough to smoke the **** out of alot of the V8's out there...especially the 02 and older Mustang GT's.

I raced a 06 Mustang GT...from a dig, and up to 50mph..i pulled.

only at 60mph+ is when he inched on me.

yes, i lose 1psi between the shift, but it gains back instantly....if youd look really hard you MIGHT see it drop...

but i never knew it dropped until i was reviewing my logs..

it was about .1 sec between the time it dropped, back to full.

LOL same here, it's a lot of fun to surprise cars that "outpower" you in a straight line. Last trip to the track I got cursed up one side and down the other by 3-4 members of a Porsche club. It was AWESOME. I 'd all day.

how is the reliability of a 2.4 turbo?

Clutch issues? Cold start issues due to remapped ECM? Come winter time, it'll regularly see -45 to -50 temperatures.

lol they are not "about" equal, the manual trany is rated by GM to only handle 170trq and they rated the automatic at 325trq because its the same trany they put in the G6 GTP back in 06 and that car was making 301hp and 290trq

I'd sacrifise the power hold capabilities of the auto for my "actually fun to drive" 5-speed tranny any day.

I would suggest reading some of Beck's threads, he has a supercharged 2.4 5spd and shares alot of his information.
