XTC downpipe w/ cat

just seeing if anyone else has had this problem...

recently got my xtc dp w/ cat installed last week (along with the CA header) and i threw a cel pulling into my driveway tonight. sounded fine, revved it and it seemed normal. a friend of mine here in MN has the same setup and he threw a cel too. when he got it read, it apparently was for a bad cat, so im guessing mine is the same.

to any of you that have this dp and/or similar set up... have you experienced this? wtf is goin on???

btw.. my friend owns a dashhawk and he clears the same cel about 2-3 times/week.

just curious to see if anyone knows anything about this because it seems pretty lame that a cat goes bad after a week.

my xtc dp is coming off this weekend or next week, the WHOLE flex pipe is leaking, more air comes out through there than through the tip, plus the actual pipe is a rusty pos, not impressed, money well spent......., if you start to hear wierd noises check that flex pipe...., my cat was fine, this all started with a code aswell p0420.

Its not uncommon to throw a code for a high flow cat with the newer OBD2 pcm's .

so on my way to work today, driving 40 miles with the cel...

filled up on the way out, dash said that i was getting 31.2 mpg but the gas gauge fell faster than a 10cent hooker from minneapolis does to her knees.

gauge looked like i was getting a 24ish mpg.

could this be a sensor problem?? what are the sensors that hook into the header and dp?? what about the MAF sensor?

just looking outside the box to see if the dp actually fucked up a sensor or something.

btw.. the code my friend got when he had this initially was P0420 code

i haven't gotten my cel read yet... so i dont know which code im getting. my friend who has the exact same set up on a 2.2 got that code a week after his header/dp were installed.

it is funny though that i get a cel (which is probably that code) around midnight last night

woot for 420 on 4-20!

0420 is a "cat below threshold " code . The only way your gonna get rid of it is to put the stock converter back on ~or have the code disabled in HPTuners . Its not making your car run any different , the rear 02 is just telling the PCM that converter is out of range .

^ well like silver said, i can just disable the code in hptuners. wouldn't you have to disable the code anyways if you had a catless dp??

now i just need to find someone in MN with hptuners....

can you keep me updated on the custom job? if the quality is better than what i have now, i might go that route too.

I'm the friend of hoffa with the xtc prob. It is the p0420 code, but it runs strong as hell still, even though it's a 2.2l.

Weird that a few people (D4u2s0t, some other names, just can't remember) didn't get a cel, but damn near everyone else did! Oh well, like I said, it's not affecting my performance, and with the dashhawk, it takes all of 3 seconds, and boom, cel gone!

Hoffa, run to a local Autozone and have them read it for free. If they ask that you've done anything, say no. Or look confused. That's what I did when I 1st had it read at autozone, and the guy said to go back to the dealership! I just laughed and drove away!

Like you said, you could find someone that has hptuners to turn it off, or get a MIL Eliminator (they're like $16) and it will get rid of the P0420 and P0430 codes.

I'd try finding someone with hptuners, as that is the free route!

Great. My XTC is coming in on tuesday, I hope I don't get a cel. I will make sure I don't go WOT for the first 200-300miles.

Also, are all your guys' XTC DP the 3" or 2.5"? Mines the 2.5, so hopefully I won't have any probs.

Okay, just got my CEL, after 350miles.

So it came on when I hammered it coming off the line last night. WOT. It came on in 1st gear at about 4300-4500RPMS. But damn it feels good to burn rubber in second in a 2.2L! It still runs like a fireball, and sounds great, and the smell of the cat was gone after about the first 30miles. I'm going to check it out at Auto Zone in a bit. Then I can have my dad's work clear it.

Yep, P0420-cat inefficiency. I guess I'll have my dad clear it. I would buy HPT, but since I have a 07 2.2L I wouldn't be able to clear codes (I think). Maybe I'll have to buy a dashhawk or somethin. How much do those things run usually?

You've got a tuneable ECU, why don't you just have the second O2 sensor deleted? I, on the other hand, have to live with the CEL for a while until HPT or SCT comes out with the e37 software.
