300 Hp!?

I was reading in the new Motor Trend that in '10 they are cranking up the boost and giving the Solstice a new fuel rail with some bigger injectors bringing in about 300rwhp.

I wonder if the 'Balts will get the same treatment?

I don't get how the new Cobalt will have 300RWHP, when it's a front wheel drive car...

Dont forget the Solstice is RWD and has more room to fit more goodies under the hood unlike the cobalt

Highly doubt the new Cobalt will get 300hp, I personally, just think its overpowering what the chassis can handle.

I'd rather keep the 260hp that the new T/C will have, and work on a way to better deliver that power to the ground. It could have 400hp, and it won't make any difference, other than making it a torque steering monster.

Ever seen that video of Clarkson with the understeering Vectra? I see the same thing happening with 300hp in a FWD car.

That being said, if GM made DELTA II capable of handling, and delivering such power to the ground effectively, bring it on.

yep agreed on that.. after a certain point in FWD there is no point in more power unless they start shipping with drag radials and stage 2 axles which is not gonna happen.

Well you will be glad to know that you can read the information on the Solstice in print than!

Just pick up the latest Motor Trend with the G8 GXP on the cover.

I dunno, it was just a thought that came to my mind when I was reading the article

From what a very reliable solstice source tells me, The Sky and Solstices will share the same platform as the camaro and a few other gm vehicles. The solstices will receive the 300 rwhp not the cobalt.

Secondly gm is making stage kits for the 07-09 gen of the solstice/sky. Rated at 320 hp.

i highly doubt stock cobalts will have 300whp. the cobalt competes with mazda speed3's, srt-4's, civic SI's. so unless GM wants to get brave and try to takedown a EVO MR or STI it sounds highly unlikely. when i see a 300 whp civic then and only then would i expect GM to release 300whp cobalt to keep up , and even then i i wouldn't believe it.

I hope to see Direct injection come across the board at GM. That alone would sell me on a '10 Cobalt. A good 6 speed manual would be nice; but not necessary. Just put the new 6 speed auto in.

A DI 2.2l would probably push 40mpg hwy, maybe more if instead of increasing power they tuned it for more economy. 150bhp, 40+mpg, and a car that I can actually fit in sounds real nice.

Of course, if they offer a wagon version, and NOT a retro-thing like the HHR, then I'd really be sold. Probably won't though.

The new delta platform will be flexible enough to handle AWD. With the added weight the balt will need the extra power.

Kappa is what the Solstice/Sky sits on. Camaro/G8 sit on Zeta. Zeta is way to large for the Solstice/Sky.

Sounds like BS on the solstices part. Because they have direct injection, the fuel rail and injectors are probably the last things you would change to gain power.

Umm, no. For Direct Injection, that is one of the first things that you will have to change out. The current stockers are only good for about 400 hp. So I could see them putting in some injectors capable of 500 hp, in order to maintain a 100,000 mile warranty.

Although, I would think that a fuel pump would be one of the first things to swap out too.

If I had known that they really were going with the LNF back then I would have never traded my 2.4 for this POS. Having my axles replaced for the second time under warranty next week. Heater core went at 33km. Yay!

My dad works for GM and he said in a few years the Cobalt will be discontinued and they will bring in something with alot more power to take its place. It wasn't a long conversation I had with him, so thats all I know.
