Thoughts about the new 2011 Chevrolet Cruze
I was wondering what your thoughts are about the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze replacing the entire Cobalt line.

I think it's a good looking and mature car. Right now the models are suited for daily driving and good economy with a touch of luxury. I can't wait to see how GM goes with the Cruze in the next couple years. I'm hoping for a performance model for sure!

I hope GM doesn't like drop the ball on this. I give them a year after the makes. Pending on how sales goes. So hopefully an SS version will be born. I saw a DUB editon of the Cruze.

to me I have little respect for it, especially if I see one on the streets trying to show off against my LNF. GM should just kept the Cobalt line and modern it like the interior and kept the engine the same down the line. Its like the SRT-4 Neon being replaced by the Caliber SRT-4 all over again.

It can make more than that in Oz for 1600 bones.

From another thread:
OK so With all this stuff making sense I REALLY think we will see some sort of AWD Cruze with maybe even a larger displacement LNF
(2.0 L) RA 420 SOHC I4 (t/c diesel) (150 hp)(240 lbˇft) 5-speed manual 6-speed GM 6T45 automatic Ecotec
Given the model designation "JG", the Holden Cruze launched with the 1.8 liter Ecotec petrol and optional 2.0 liter turbodiesel engine. Either way, both engines are mated to the five-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic (see above). Electronic stability control (ESC), seat belt pretensioners and six airbags are standard across the board.[24] Specification-wise, a price-leading CD opens up the range, finished off with a more upmarket CDX. The CD comes equipped with 16 inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, a trip computer, power windows and automatic headlamps.[62] CDX versions add 17 inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, leather-wrapped steering wheel and upholstery, heated front seats and rear parking sensors.[63] While CDX cars were initially a petrol-only model, in early-2010 the CDX diesel surfaced, available with both the automatic and manual transmissions.[64]

The 6T45 differs from the 6T40 in its use of heavier-duty components, allowing it to handle engines with greater torque. The 6T40 will be available in front-wheel drive configuration only (MH8), but the 6T45 will be adaptable to both FWD (MH7) and all-wheel drive (MHC).[1] The transmission is based on the larger 6T70/75, and will be produced at Ypsilanti, Michigan, as well as at an undisclosed Shanghai GM location. Since 2008, these transmissions have been produced by GM Daewoo at the Boryeong Transmission Plant in Boryeong, South Korea. The facility is currently capable of producing up to 300,000 Hydra-Matic six-speed automatic transmissions annually.
From another thread:
Okay, Ill just chime in with my thoughts on the subject for the OP.
Firstly the trans thats likely the best choice is the 4T45.
Its the only auto that will bolt to the ECO and to the Cobalt.
Any other trans (4T65,4T80, 6T45, 6T75) will either not bolt to the ECO (only the 6T45 does) or will not bolt into the Cobalt(none do) or worse wont fit without cutting the car
The 4T65 has alot higher capacity, but requires an adapter to fit the ECO, special torque converter(or adapter) and requires custom mounts and custom axles.
the 6speeds arent really even worth discussing, though if you search it has been before.
If you use a 4T45 plan on needing custom downpipe and charge piping, youll also need a different motor mount, youll need trans cooling, youll need shift cables, a shifter, a console trim plate, youll need axles, a flywheel
Youll either need to make the HHR electrical stuff work in the cobalt (not easy because of several reasons but chief among them is the difference in the vehicle harnesses) or youll need to run a standalone controller. One that can do the job all by itself isnt cheap or easy to setup properly, one that isnt expensive and is easy to use will make the car very unfun to drive everyday.
It would be much easier to pickup an NA auto car and build it. You should be able to find an auto car for under $5000 no problem

GM just put its performance division back to work and they said right now there main focus was on small cars. I figure one is the Aveo RS im hoping the other is a SS Cruze.....ill take one in hatch form please!!
That would make up for the lack of no Astra Redline from a few years back.

How do I feel about the Cruze? If I was in the market for a new compact car today as a daily commuter and not a performance car at all, I would seriously consider a Cruze.

Need more power for the AWD .. Our 260 stock would only dyno at about 220 AWP about 10 HP per wheel loss.

Yeah I hope it is front wheel drive. As sad as that is to say, it saves weight and will help the price alot. If they made a high horsepower turbo with a small displacement and made it AWD, they would probably price it near the EVO's and WRXs.

SO what you are saying is that GM shouldn't build a car to compete with Fords Rally division Focus, Subaru STI, audi's, VW R32, Mitsubishi evo, Genesis Coupe . We should just give them the market ....
the only real recognition the cobalt is getting is for Drag times on ecotec motors that have parts in them that most people can't even find publicly where as Subaru and others have cars that run rally championships with a pretty much stock car with some upgrades. and are heavily advertised as such. The Cruze needs to be an Icon that dominates all.
I don't see the point in making another FWD car just to compete with a Ford Fiesta, VW GTI, MS3, CSRT4
If you want cheap well then they should make an RS version for people like you who don't want to spend the money for a real "track" car.
The FWD Cruze they race now is cool and all but come on FWD high horse power sucks in the snow belt anyway with 18 inch low pros its almost as worthless as a rwd caprice without snow shoes.

/facepalm. It's from South Korea. And yea, I'll admit it, KIA sucks. Not sure about Hyundai. Kia resale value is about is good as the Cobalt resale value
