2.4 -> 2.2 car

Has anyone dropped the 2.4 into a 2.2 car? I'm assuming it would require motor, ECM, harness and that everything else would bolt in unchanged?

How does the airbag system interact with the engine?

Nobodies done it because it's not worth it. if you're going to go through the hassle of an engine swap, why put one in that makes barely any more hp, and doesn't really have much more potential. Just not worth it.

why don't you just do a lsj swap if you gonna spend all that money to get a 2.4 in your 2.2 car

The thickness of a block is irrelevant at these power levels, the block itself is fine for any horsepower level you can throw at it until you start building it into a full drag car. Also the internals on the LSJ and LE5 can handle more power because they're forged.

So in the end, to do a turbo build thats over 250whp, its cheaper on a 2.4 or 2.0 block. The 2.2 needs internal work to be reliable above 250whp and that starts to get expensive

it doesnt. But it interacts with the ECM, which interacts with the engine. New engine requires new ECM which requires new everything else that attaches to the ECM

basically...motor swaps just aren't done on our cars

the 2.2 has more aftermarket support in the sense of internals.

the 2.4 makes more power per of boost than any other cobalt motor due to the higher compression & displacement
