Who has the best crate motor for our cars? Best bang for the buck? I'm definitely not looking to spend $5500.

Looking to make a choice soon. Come on vendors, this is your chance to step up.

I have searched around a bit and found some things, but I'm looking to confirm what I think I know.

Those bolts can be a bitch, and let's not even mention the connectors snapping together!

If you want a stock replacement, CED is your best bet. ZZP was working on some upgraded motors, but I don't know whether they're selling them yet.

 

ZZP has their crate engines listed in their products section so I would assume that they are a go.

 

wat about the jbody performance engines? theyve got 2 different kinds, depending how much power you want.

 

I put it here in advanced because I figured this was slightly more advanced than slapping on an intake tube or a fart cannon. If you must ask. If the mods think it's in the wrong place, they can move it, with my apologies. Anyone else, too bad if you don't llike it.

ZZP does have their crate motors for sale and the base crate motor is less than CED. Just wondering if anyone had already bought one and what they thought of them. That's also why I posted here.

Thank you. I'll check them out. I am trying to get a little more powaaa. Why do a swap if you can't gain something from it? This is not just a daily driver, it is a daily driver, but it is also my weekend racer (on legal race tracks, of course)

Do NOT go with JBP. Seriously. Don't. Their products are proven to fail, their customer service is terrible, just everything about them is horrid.

If you want a motor that's already modded, go with ZZP. That's really your only reliable option. CED just sells stock motors, no upgrades included.

anyone got a link to the zzp upgraded engines? im pretty sure the ones i found were all stock. i didnt read to thoroughly tho.

This morning it looked like that was not an option. Now it looks like it's the best option. bloody confusing situation...........

 

Only good thing about getting a crate motor is that you can have the old one out, put your new clutch in, put your tranny on it, and all your accessories, and have it dropped back in by the end of the weekend. Now building an engine takes a tad longer than that.

 

dude its simple go get a zzp 2.4 and put it in there or a stock replacement from ced

Related question. Will the lsj head fit on a 2.4 block? how hard is it to fit? What issues are there to figure out? Is it mostly machining(if any) or will it take some mystical $1000 part to install? Who (besides newt, already PMed him about it) has some insight into this?

Head bolts right on. Just need a 89mm bore head gasket. And the crank trigger wheel is clocked different on the 2.4 crank so you need to run an external wheel.
