E85 Review: Wicked Gets Gets Corn Fed
**Cliff Notes @ Bottom**I finally felt comfortable with where my 79# injector tune is to try E85. I ran my car as dry as I could, another 32 miles after fuel warning was on. Put 12.2 gallons of E85 in the tank after flashing my base E85 Maf Calibration. And nothing... No spark, no cranking, just lights...
HPTuners beta is just that, a beta with bugs. After adjusting some things to get HPT working properly, a re-write got me out on the road. Was fed up and went home for the day.
Friday I drove from Dayton, OH to Apple Creek, OH (189miles/3hrs) and did a little fine tuning. First tank was 24mpg average. A loss of 8mpg
Idle is rough on start up for a bit til it got warmed up. Overall driving is smoother and more responsive. That night I revised my tune from the data and loaded it up.
On the way down to the Ohio Meet I filled back up. The cruise down was much better on my gas tank. Dialing in the maf netted me 29mpg, a loss of only 3mpg over premium fuel.
Later that day TennPenn83, friend of mine with a TVS, wanted to run my car, his car, and lsjion's car. Mods are as follows:
WickedSS2005
Injen Intake
Ported M62
2.6" pulley
Garret H/E
79# Lucas Injectors
Pacesetter Header
3" catless exhaust
E85
TennPenn83
K&N Intake
LS4 Throttle Body
TVS
80mm Pulley
ZZP H/E
Dual Pass
Opt B
79# Lucas Injectors
Stock Compression Diamond Pistons
lsjion
2.8" Pulley
42# Lucas Injectors
Full 3" Exhaust
Midlength Header (not sure of brand)
Garret H/E
Ported Head
Results are as follows:
First run, 5o mph: I was in 3rd, others were in second (bad gear choice on my part) lsjion and I were dead even til I got higher in the rpm where I gained 2 cars and TennPenn83 walked us both.
Second run, Wicked vs TennPenn
40mph, second gear for each. Dead even! The ION Redlines have a 17" rim which means they shift sooner than us Cobalts. I'd nose up n his shift, he'd catch up on my shift.
**Cliff Notes and Overall Review**
E85 is WIN! I lost 3-4mpg overall. My timing went from 20* to now 25*. AFR @ WOT is 11.6. Overall the car is more responsive throughout all driving conditions. There is a bit of a rough cold start, but once warmed up the car idles fine and drives great. IMO, the car runs better on E85. Smoother shifts, less jerky entrance/exit of DFCO. 2.6 M62 E85 car is dead even with a stock pulley'd TVS.
Oh, and slight hint of corn from exhaust fumes. If you can do the E85 (availability in your area) I HIGHLY recommend it. I save $6bucks a fill up and lose 30-40 miles per tank. It's worth it for me. I'm never going back to full dinosaur fuel. E85 =

e85 and winter time doesn't work well. so i am back on 79's and pump gas. besides, i was out of fuel pump at 6k rpms on the 98lb injectors. in short, yes i have run it
who ported lsjion's head?
awesome review, e85 seems like the new way to go, the potential is just too great.

was my thread not good enough for you, tom? lulz...
Quoted for Driver Mod 2.0, and to not give credit to ZZP for anything on my car.

Your thread was from your POV so I made one from my POV. Makes it mroe concrete to have both sides of the story.
Oh, and not my fault you wanted to crank 2nd gear to 6k from the get go of the first run. I stayed in third. So. Driver Mod 2.0 is now obsolete
