Thumbs up Engine Swap

I am thinking about a few things to do to my car, mainly I want to throw a V6 that has alot of power, and can be turbo'd and among other things be a beast under the hood, since the weight of a v8 is disproportional to my car, I figured a v6 that has been out for a while can be put to use in my car, I understand the need for changing the FWD to RWD and also considering turning automatic to a manual, although hard, I wish to do so. Only downfall is the cash but eh. Whats everyone opinions, and standings on certian engines. I was looking at a engine in a car that was fast, but can also be upgraded fairly cheap and decently. Thanks in advance for the remarks.

jeezus..just buy a lancer evolution. or a camaro or something. you'll have all that, and All wheel drive, rwd, or v8..and it won't cost as much in the long run.

Very true....

Also if you wanted to do that why even have the SS in the first place.
The 2.4l in the SS is very potent. All you need is a good build and a turbo.

Well, I know of some cavaliers going to the 3800 s/c engine...They can mate it to their 5 speed trannys...the stock engined ones do high 13's in the cavy...one dude did like 13.2 with a pulley swap, tune, and exhaust i belive...nothing crazy though

I was also thinking of a 5.3 ls3 motor swap but I don't belive that would fit at all without cutting the radiator suppourt and maybe hacking at the firewall

Well I have thought about that, and the main reason is the turboing does spark my intrest, only problem is the ecu isnt compatible yet, and I rather not deal with problems down the road, I look at the future, I mean sure in a year or so's time but still, and a v6 over a v8 is cause the weight, a v8 is gonna be 800+- from mine, compared to 300max- weight of the v6, plus if the right v6 is grabbed, it can out preform certian v8's I mean really thinking about it, I want to turn my cobalt into something extremly quick, to make everyones mind get blown. Kinda like seeing a civic si get stomped on by a vw vanagan. How it happened? No idea, just did,a nd the si driver was not a amatuer.

2jz.................Theres a shop in my town that specializes in doing 2jz swaps in to different cars. Pretty sick, not to mention fast as FK!!

But seriously get a awd or fwd car or build your 4cyl and turbo it. Lots cheaper.

If you want something crazy, you're better off picking up a copy of the gm build book and building a turboed 2.2 with full standalone....A nice 400-600 whp would surprise MANY cars and still be somewhat streetable...You may lose airbags and other stuff of that nature with the fulll standalone..

I hope you have ALOT alot alot of money, and after its all done its not even going to be that fast, its pointless, just buy a different car, or do the 2jz with nas swap.

I wouldn't waste the time on a v6. Think of all the work to do that kind of a motor swap in this car. What makes you think that its gonna be faster? just because it has two more cylinders?

As far as NO2 is concerned I can get it pretty fast if I wanted it. Thinking about that addon at the moment. Plus I dont want a different car, this car im keeping for a good long while. Unless I get hit, then I buy a crapper 1980's junker till I become rich enough to buy a Viper. I love the lok of our cobalts, its great. Maybe I will be better off waiting, I guess I can spend my paychecks as a manager on this when I get there. Love no debts.

You must admit, a 2jz swap into some cars are worth every penny, not a cobalt tho.

Heres' the Tech2Motorsports 240sx shop drift car.

if you cant afford to finance a viper, you probably cant afford the tranny/engine swap, fabrication of parts, the LS3 alone, or the FI components.

aaah

Gotcha.

I'm just used to people calling them 3800s and not by their RPO.

I was looking at the 3.8 too, but I dont think it was the same one your talking about, I mean it might be, but I dont remember what car it was in. I guess Ill just not swap, cause as Adam's guide says, I dont have a second car, and with winter coming itll be a GG. I guess I can just save up for a turbo, and do a piggy back I guess. A member in Utah is going to do it first, so after his results, ill go from there. If his is great, ill pump it too. If bad ill just wait for a ecu fix. Also Adam isn't there a way to reset shift points and a few other things in the ECU at the dealership? I can get it done, if its able to be done, I got a tech in there who hooks me up with deals on stuff since I worked/school with him as well and I can't remember if thats true?

Why would you even concider an engine swap and RWD convertion unless you were completely loaded with cash?

Reasons not to do it:

1. It would not be cost effective for what you would gain
2. Its a BRAND new car!
3. Think of all the problems and complications involved.
4. You and i both know this is not a project in your budget.
5. Your 2.4 has plenty of potential to be a monster
6. You already have tuning for the 2.4

I could go on.....
