how hard, and for that matter how much money, would it be to change my LS FWD to an AWD??

the sad part is i am being completely serious. It is never cost effective to try to redesign your drivetrain. If you want awd buy a wrx or a dsm or something, it will end up costing WAAY less.

i am no where near an expert on that kinda stuff but im gonna guess it wouldnt be worth the time or money to try and convert it over. i dont believe GM has and AWD cars out there so all the parts would have to be custom. then testing and all that stuff you car would probly be out for 6 months or more and cost 10gs would be my guess

i wouldn't do it. And it would take forever. Victory has been changing his to a RWD since feb, and its not even close to being done, well closer now

I used to live in Middletown NY lol

Anyways, everyone is correct. It's going to be a matter of having someone who is a professional doing this.

You also have to think of it this way...

No one keeps a car forever and you'll eventually want to sell it. Dealerships would give you 0 for the car, on the street, no one would want to buy it because there is no market for modified (highly modified) Cobalt. Civic, maybe...DSM, maybe...Cobalt, no. So basically, you're throwing the value of that vehicle down the drain.

You're also leaving this up to a shop that is out to make money and take your money. They could tell you anything and charge you whatever they want...so prepared to get raped.

Like said, for a private owner and street/daily driver vehicle, there is no need to do such a thing especially if you're pretty much stock and it's not cost effective at all.

So pay off your car and buy a stock AWD car if you truely want that.

Instead of thinking of an absolutely useless conversion on a cobalt for traction improvement, why don't you invest in a good set of tires and suspension components?

It would be pretty cool but only a fully sponcered show/race car would be able to afford it. Plus I think it might void your warrenty as well.

Wait, wait. You want to convert your car to AWD, but you don't want to put in springs because of your warranty?

You can not be serious.

The only thing springs void is your shocks and struts.

I thought about this once before, but it was centered around an A4 setup. I agree that it is possible and will cost a bunch of cash.

As mentioned earlier, I hope you dont need to drive the car.......cuz it'll take a long time to do it right.

dang you beat it to me. i was gonna say the same exact thing. if your worried about warranty why are you asking about a fwd to awd?? but, actually springs can void quite a bit. they can void your whole drivetrain. my brother told me how they void your warranty at one point but i forgot. i trust him considering hes one of the top mechanics at his Mercedes shop, went to UTI and is now master certified.

So let me get this straight, you want to completely redesign the drivetrain, and switch your
FWD car to AWD, and that's fine.

But you're afraid to throw a set of springs on it?

Wtf?

What am I missing?
