Head broke.
Well the head I believe finally took a dump, so I wanna use this precious time to build up the head. I have not been on the site for a while now so didnt know if anything new was out there. Any ideas on some new spring, lifters, etc..? Any help or advice greatly appreciated, thanks guys!
To be honest I am not real sure. Racing it here and there didnt help though Im sure of that lol. Ugh I know when I floor it I would get alot of black smoke that would blow out, and it was only when I floored it. Atleast from what I could see, another night I was messing around on the freeway and floored it in 3rd, then to 4th gear. As I made the transistion to 4th gear I noticed in my rear view sparks flying out the "assuming" the exhaust. Now about 3 weeks later I got loud knocking sounds in the top side of the head. The knocking sound is there when I start the car, and then disapates and goes away? Not sure if its a loose lifter maybe? I am suppose to put it in the shop this friday. The car has 68k, and I am the original owner.
ZZP has some good head rebuilding parts if you are interested in that. I think they offer an LSJ built head too.
Would start with new lifters/rockers and valve springs. Maybe Cam's, new head gasket etc.

Yeah I was jsut on their site, really nice they have that. I would love to get cams to but I just cannot afford all of that at once Lol... But, I am really thinking about buying that head. Think the head, ARP HeadStuds, Head Gasket, and Valve cover Gasket about 1600 w/ shipping. Which is not to abd a deal... I am kinda wondering tho if I have a loose rocker arm tho... Because the sound is loud but it goes away over time its weird.. no power lose nothing acts the same..
Ima take the valve cover off and look.

If you over revved you probably popped some rockers/lifters. Look and see if any have come out, you may not even need a whole new head at that point you could just put them back on. but if you are going to take it apart, might as well replace the valve springs/retainers so you can rev high safely.

Ok well its definitly not rocker arms or anything like that.. all that looks good.. BuT.. on the side of the head where the timing chain is there is a bolt lodge inbetween the chain and the side wall of the head...? So now im scared lol.. anyone have any idea what bolt this might be..? I have pics im in the process of trying to upload them now..

Humm.. well I assume I am going to have to put it in the shop then.. I dont have the tools now, nor the space to do it.. :/ but I would like to know exactly what it is ..or where it goes atleast but tensioner is a good possibility..
Well I managed to get the bolt out.. it does not appear to be a bolt to the tensionar because the tensionar is on the opposite side.. but it does look like it went to the plastic guide rails for the chain to travel along.. the bolt had snapped and fell out which lead to it becoming lodged.. nothing appears to be damaged or out of place. The plastic guide rail is loose but does not come out of alignment of the chain so I would assume I should be ok, and had gotten EXTREMELY LUCKY lol.. I am glad it did not bust the chain.. but if anyone else might know of where it went for sure I'd apprecaite the help, but that is my conclusion.. Thanks guys!
