Talking Installing big engines into the cobalt

Lets see if we can get this topic off the ground. We have installing all kinds of late model GM front wheel drive Engines in to the Pontiac Fiero Cad north* ls4 Ls1 Super charged series II and III all of these would be a grate upgrade for straight line speed.

Unless you want a motor swap just to say you did it, I don't think it's worth it.

ZZP - 500 hp SS Turbocharged
Lots of people - 400+ hp SS Supercharged with turbo swaps
ZZP - Twincharged SS Supercharged with a nasty power curve

The four bangers are more than capable in these cars. Also, the motors you're talking about would actually be a detriment to performance because they're heavier.

well i would have to disagree... if you swaped an ls1 into a cobalt.. you can make upwards of 500 whp with just h/c... F/I think 600 whp on a stock block... so i don't think it would hurt performance too bad

the only people who do RWD V8 swaps on cobalts are those who are making pure drag cars for the NHRA events. Ive seen a few of them run...but its not something any one of us typical modders has done.

You have obviously never met Chuck Mallett. Im sure if he wanted to, he could make a cobalt with a LS7 RWD cobalt and have it as a daily driver. He is the type of guy who is pretty magical with cars.. as far as the typical modder i dont think so, considering people on this site are hesitant to drop 500 on a single wheel let alone the 15-20,000 he woould charge for the swap

Yeah I meant stock for stock. But I'm still thinking it would be cheaper to make 500 hp with a turbo swapped LNF...

have I met him? no...have you?
but yes, im well aware of who he is.

could he? yes. Will he? doubt it. Its a LOT more complicated than dropping an LSx into a Kappa car.

Most people on this site are of the mindset of a real car is built and not bought. Buying a $15-20k Cobalt and then dropping that again into it to make it a V8 RWD platform is silly in my mind when you can get a 505 hp C6Z06 for that kind of coin and have some leftover for power adders...

We have a saying in the Jeep community (where it seems like there are a lot of hair-brained ideas formed and shared) that just because you CAN doesn't mean that you SHOULD.

There is one idiot on this site who is putting an LS2 into his RWD Cobalt. Sadly he trusted the wrong shops to do the work and has been severly raped in the process. My ass still feels the pain everyday.

Chin up, The ass-kissing that will occur when this beast is completed oughta help mend any ass-hurt incurred thus far.

+1 again for an innovator

Thanks again and if that ass kissing is done by the women in that hottest chicks thread, life will be good. Well, until the wife kills me that is.
