Mod Questions

Hope this is in the right thread, but I have headers and a 3" dp with no cat coming from Clear Image Automotive and they are including a canned tune with the current mods on my car. I told them before they send me the tune I want to have some engine stuff done first and they would send me the tune later. So... I am waiting to purchase and install on my car 60lbs injectors w/ harness, tensioner, GM II belt, 2.8" pulley, a good H/E, dual by-pass and the CA Overdrive Crank Pulley. Here is the question.. Do i have to have the supercharger ported or machined to add that smaller pulley? and do I have to have a dual by-pass and what purpose does it serve? I am new to going this far in modding a car so want to take best steps to prevent damage done. I do plan on investing in a TVS supercharger in a year or so too.

Let me know in a professional manner please.
Thanks for taking the time to read and for your post.

Ok dont get an overdrive pulley, wtf for? its jsut going to draw more power from the engine. Secondly you dont need to do anything to the stock supercharger. Dual pass is a good investment if you plan on making alot of PSI with the supercharger, it passes the coolant in 2 seperate flows for the 4 laminova cores, so the coolant doesnt heat up as much as more evenly cools the air.

Well the reason I thought the crank pulley would be good is that it was lighter and would possibly add an extra boost according to CA website.
Info from cobalt-addiction.com
OVERDRIVE: perfect for supercharged vehicles as it will net just about 1# more of boost and also take up some belt slack you may have from running a smaller pulley. Perfect for those running GM stage 2 kits and wanting alittle more boost. Also perfect for those wanting to run more boost without having to machine the supercharger snout which is required on some smaller pulleys. Also perfect for those running large stereo systems needing alittle more output from the alternator at idle , will help fix the dimming light syndrome.

But if it is a pointless item I won't consider it.

well its not pointless but its counter productive, if you want more boost get a smaller supercharger pulley, if you want more amps from your alternator get a better alternator. A bigger crank pulley is going to spin everything on the belt faster, causing more power from the engine to be used to spin the accessories. So additional HP you get from the higher boost is going to be couter acted by the faster spinning everything else on the belt. Also you are going to be spinning things faster than what might be a good idea to do so.

also, your 2.8 pulley will be like a 2.7 or smaller, which means making a lot of heat. I HIGHLY suggest that you DON'T get a new crank pulley.
