what valve springs to replace bates?

so it looks like the valve springs in my l61 swapped porsche are dead. its got bates 94lb springs, retainers and seats in it right now. im really unsure what to put into it. ideally id like to just swap the springs themselves out, however i cant seem to find the bates springs anywhere. the only dual springs ive found that are sold as springs only are the ferrea, does anyone know anything about them? any idea if they would be compatable with the bates seats and retainers?

ive also considered supertech springs, however zzp seems to be saying they are prone to failure. anyone know anything about that? zzp springs are another option i guess, would almost rather have a dual spring though.

ZZP's comment about supertech failure is a joke. A ploy to sell their springs no doubt.

I've had supertechs in my car for almost 4 years now w/o any issue what so ever.

I was in your same boat back when I was in the market for valvesprings. I spoke with one of the engineers at supertech, and they provided me all sorts of good info.

I'll see if I can find it for ya.

id appreciate that info.

in my searching i did find some people talking about the now discontinued supertech 78lb springs not properly fitting the head and that may have been the cause of the failure. i cant actually say i found anyone directly talking about their failed springs, just discussing rumors about it.

i pretty much have decided on the supertech springs. ferrea springs are just way too much money, and im not sold on a single spring for what i want to do. im running solid lifter cams, same specs as the comp turbo cams. if the engine will make power at 8000 or 8500, i want to be able to use that. im thinking ill go with the 94lb springs again, i dont think the 76lb springs are quite up to the task. could be wrong though.

The Supertechs are fantastic valve springs. The valve seal failure was something I actually saw when I was still a customer during one of my visits to ZZP. But I think those instances are very few and far between.

The Supertechs or ZZP's 82# springs are the main two I'd look into.

Again ill vouch for the werks springs unless they do not meet your lbs requirement. I run them in my car which sees 5050 road race and dd driving. They are also run in 350hp alcohal powered solid lifter midget cars turning 8500 rpm. Made hetr in illinois by my dads iso9001 certified spring manufactuering company

The 78's had clearance issues. They later re developed them and changed the 78's to 75's.

I'd think the 76s or 94s would be fine for what you are looking for.

The clearence issues can be seen when u compress the springs on a bench so double check them. If they interfere you just need to clean up the head

They no longer sell the 78's so no worries about that.

Good to still check though.
