White Smoke from the exhaust

Before you say headgasket, please read.

Oil is clean, no mixing.
Antifreeze level has not changed.
Sprak plugs look fine.

We were in the middle of installing the Hahn stage 5 kit. We just got ready to put the intake manifold on. Well installing the intake manifold, the fuel rail got in the way. To gain some access room, we removed the coolant line that goes from the coolant tank to the head. We saw some coolant drain. We quickly reconnected the line to prevent any further coolant loss. We put the intake manifold on.

Today I was thinking about it, and decided before we start the engine, we should pull spark plugs and turn the engine to make sure no coolant entered the head/cylinder chambers.

This resulted in coolant being blown out the spark plug holes. By the time we were done cranking, the coolant seemed to be all out. We then started the car. It ran fine. We noticed something leaking. We shut the car off and noticed that there was coolant leaking from the exhaust were the O2 housing meets the downpipe. We restarted the car and the leaking had stopped.

Now the car is producing white smoke when start. It produces a lot less smoke now then when first started.

I have read that once a cylinder chamber and or exhaust pipe collects coolant, it can take hours to days before the smoke can stop.

What do you guys think? We will probably do a compression check tomorrow.

That's what I'm starting to think.

Most likely a compression test will be done tomorrow just to confirm.

Sounds like you just need to let the car finish burning off the coolant. Let it sit at idle in the driveway for a bit then take it out for a drive.

good luck man...i spilled some coolant...i did my best at cleaning the piston heads and the cylinder walls when i changed my head gasket...and well...i still get a little bit of smoke...as u stated my oil is clean as well...and i did my headgasket about 2-3 weeks ago...i forget. my compression is good. Now im thinking about using seafoam. Seafoam works great....or if you can find engine burn...it has a Cat on the label...that should fix your problem. but seafoam should fix this...i think. not sure but i dont see why it wouldnt. good luck

Never thought of using seafoam to pick up any extra coolant that may be left behind. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea. We'll probably end up doing the compression test and pending the results of that, and maybe some seafoam, take the car out for a drive and see how it goes.

Also, depending on how long ago the exhaust was put on in relation to your first start up.. the residue oils from your hands and the manufacturing process are sometimes excess on some of the main compenents...

It stopped smoking after a little...

I had a somewhat similar problem.

Went to hang out with friends. Got there, was smoking a cigarette.

Put my cigarette out..but kept seeing white smoke. Looked behind my car....white smoke is comin out of the exhaust.

Ok..I assumed head gasket.

Checked my coolant levels. Perfect.
Checked my oil itself. Nothing abnormal.

La la la, revved the motor a few times to hear for any abnormalities. Turned car off, another friend got there. told him about it. started car...white smoke....then it just..stopped. hasnt done it since.

and this was the only time its ever done it.
