Installing Pistons

Is it possible to install new pistons without removing the engine from the car. I was wondering if I could just remove the head and drop the oil pan. Disconnect the pistons from the crank and push them up through the head.

its very simple. just look up the gm build book on google if you get confused. it took me about 7 hours to get the motor apart and back together taking my time and inspection everything. never took the block out. check out this guys thread i found it very helpful.

yea man...thats how i changed my pistons out....put it on jacks and took off the head and the oil pan...and then removed the rods from the crank and pushed up on them...they pop right out...and installation is backwards..you might want to get a ball hone in there to make sure the new rings sit in right...and then re install everything..its time consuming but very do able...

If you time the car correctly you are fine.

Timing is a bit tricky. Just take your time and research before you do it and you'll be fine.
