are you a knowledgable tuner?

Hope so, I have a couple questions, and mind you ive never tuned a car before. With after market cam's, at least "stage2" or more aggressive (you know, the ones that require computer modifications), what exactly do you tune for? I mean is it an air to fuel ratio adjustment, or what exactly needs to be done?

What I'm getting at is, because i do have a 2.2, would the AEM F/IC be able to tune for such an application?

I'm just trying to learn, thanks for the help!

wilder running cams tend to throw off MAF/MAP sensors. they ythrow off the maf by movingback and forth so much, the maf counts the molecules on their way in, some of them on their way out caused by the reversion, and the same molecules on their way in again. theyre counted for 3 times. they also throw off the MAP since those idle reversions create fluctuations in pressure.

also, i believe some cams that target high RPMs are restrictive at idle and lower RPMs and your starving your engine of o2, causing a rich condition

as far as when your in the power band, you just tune to add more fuel. the cams allow more air to flow in,and you need more fuel to burn with that added air, or else you run lean.

anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong, as im not positive on the idle tuning

the aem unit would be able to ajust the a/f ratio to compensate for the cams

rescale the break point to more points in your idle area. this will give you greater resolution under light and no throttle to you can better fine tune your afr
