Has anybody here heard of the ecotec motors being swapped into 1975 - 1980 Monza's, Sunbirds, etc.? I have a 1979 Sunbird that I was mulling this over for a possible future swap. I'd like to get more info on this.

I know there's trans adapters available and stuff like that. Maybe I have a dare to be different mindset but I thought it would be cool to have maybe an HHR setup with a turbo if they came with that. Even just a higher hp 2.4 would be better than the v6 I have now. Plus fuel injection and all that.

 

Should be plenty of information out there to do this.

I'd probably go with a low mileage 2.2L, light build and low boost supercharge.

 

That sounds like fun too. Nobody here where i live had a Sunbird that i know of and eyes would pop when i opened the hood. I'd like to see pics of the ls swap too.

that kit allows you to run any gm v8 automatic prior to the gen 3 v8. the 200-4r is a good option for a 4 speed auto, however if your going to go with an automatic i think you are better off grabbing the 5l40e from a solstice as it will bolt right up. but honestly, why bother with an auto behind a 4 cylinder?

 

I'll admit, a 5 or 6 spd. would be a blast in that car. It's only around 2800 lbs or so. I had a 1980 4 cyl. 4 spd back in the late 80's that was fun to drive. I've kicked myself many times for getting rid of it. A rust free west Texas car too.

 

My dad has a 77 Vega, I've been going to the h-body.org "Monzaque" meets for years and ever since I got the cobalt I've had my eyes open for a Chevy Vega or Pontiac Astre for just this swap. One day I'll get there

 

Keep a an eye out for random parts too. Hard to tell what would be needed down the road.
