Alright so I had the idea at first, but passed it up because of a RIDICULOUS estimate, but all it took was $50 to complete the swap & everything is functional.....pics....

First off...the airbag light on the cluster & the airbag light on the dash not working (nothing plugged in/no seat cushion):

The "new" Recaro cushion...complete with the airbag sensor & wiring:

The "new" Recaro cushion in the car & plugged in....notice the airbag light on the cluster is gone (goes away by plugging it in) & the airbag light on the dash is working now (it goes "OFF" if no one is in the seat--less than 30 lbs. & it goes "ON" when someone is in the seat):

I'm sitting in the seat without my seatbelt unattached, it says "ON" & the seatbelt sign lit up:

I'm sitting in the seat with my seatbelt attached, it says "ON":

Everything is 100% working right & functional.....final pics:

This is what I had before...unsupportive "pleather" seats:

Stock seat vs. Recaro:

i have searched all over the place for an answer to this: Will this work on swapping from stock 06 ss/sc red/black leather seats (non-airbag sensor/seat belt sensor) with 08 ss/tc black seats? we may be swapping out and i just need to figure this out first before we take everything apart. Thanks for any help

yea, it should work. when i took my seats out for drag racing i looked at the bottoms and it looks like they used the same track, just modified the cushion and support bars. Ive also swapped out ION recaros into a LS balt and G85 recaros into a G5/GT so all of the seats are interchangeable

how would we go about modding the cushion and support bars?

No, what i mean was the only thing that looks modified was the supports for you thighs by GM. It looks like they lengthend them and used alittle bit bigger round bar. No modification needed to swap seats. Just parts from one seat to another

yeap. its actually pretty easy once you have both seats flipped upside down on the floor and you start disassembling.

i need to get on this and figure out how to make it factory looking....

i assume you had heated leather seats and swapped out the heating elements into the recaros when you installed them??

i ripped off the heating pads and the ass pressure sensor on the passenger side and transplanted it to the recaros, the hardest part other than getting the covers off is that you have to glue the heating pads to the foam and its hard to get the covers to set exactly just like they were I messed up a bit on the drivers side

I'm going to do this on mu 07 ss/sc and just wanted to double check that this swap only applies to the passenger seat, right?

Thanks again for this thread. It gave me the ***** to do this to the recaros I just scored on ebay.

I now have heated recaros as well, with working passenger and seatbelt sensors.

Swapped Recaro SS seats into 2007 cobalt coupe ss

I know that some of the early '07 SS/SC's w/G85 had Recaros, but did/do they have the Airbag light on the dash & the sensor in the seat cushion????

I swapped a set of 2004 RL Recaros ($300 for the set from a "recycler") in my '07 RL, but BASICALLY I had to keep the stock seat's bottom cushion & attach it to the Recaro seat frame to keep the airbag sensor/light working properly.

Unplugged the passenger seat wiring, removed the seat, and it only takes 4 x 10mm bolts (on each seat) to swap the cushions. Put the seat back in & plug it in. And everything else literally bolted right in.

BUT I also had to swap the seatbelt buckle (from a different seat) that had wiring over because the stock seat frame was different from the Recaro seat frame. On the Ions, the passenger seat can fold flat. Well if your guys (Cobalts/G5s) seats don't do that, then you won't have to worry about that step. Here's what my stock seat did:

So before you ask.....
I tried tried everything to make it work with the Recaro bottom cushion, but it wasn't going to happen.

I tried swapping the sensor over to the Recaro seat, but the foam would've needed to be trimmed (which would've ruined the seat for when I sell these next year).
Also the sensor would've covered the Velco strip for the seat skin to attach to the seat foam which wouldn't of worked either.
And on top of that......the airbag computer prevent the Recaro seat skin from attaching to under the seat pan (if you look in the pics below you'll see that the front part of the Recaro seat skin is really long attaches to the center of the seat pan and then if you look at the stock seat pic you don't see the seat skin on the bottom of the seat).

Just wondering if anyone figured out a way to bypass it ????
OR
I'm just posting to show you guys that it can somewhat be done

SO yeah....that's it....any questions...post away!

Here's the sensor under the seat cover:

The sensor, computer, & wiring:

After:

Had nowhere else to fit the tires so had to put em on the recaros. I had 2 in truck too

Back leather ss recaro seats

Got the combo for an unbelievably good price....
