3rd Brake Light as Turn Signals???

Hey all,

Has anyone on here ever turned their 3rd brake light into turn signals? I have searched the threads but can't find anything.

Currently I have 3 x 12 LED wedge base bulbs (921/R12) in the 3rd brake light. What I would like to do is have the outer bulbs as turn signals and brake lights. Looking for a "How To" on the wiring or if it is even possible. There are only 2 wires supplying the power to all 3 bulbs as in the pic below. Anybody know how to set it up like this? I plan to nightshade most of the lens except with an arrow on the left side, an arrow on the right side and the word "stop" in the middle (or something to that effect). I still want all 3 bulbs to light up if I am just stopping but lets say I am turning left - the left bulb would flash while the other 2 bulbs would light up for braking.

My opinion is that this would look good and will do it if possible but will also take into account any "E-pinions" from experience. Here are some pics...

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think you guys misunderstood what I am trying to do. I am not getting rid of the LED bulbs - just trying to turn the left LED bulb of the 3rd brake into a turn signal and the right bulb into a signal.

Any wiring advice???

I would think the third or center light is for a brake light only as by law, and the first cop who seen it used as a signal light would think WTF and you would get pulled over and ticketed IMO

3rd brake light is optional, it can do whatever you want it to :P

Just like how fogs are optional, so mine are allowed to be pink according to WV State law

There was a guy with a yellow G5 that done this on Chevy Cobalt Forum

Just slice into the wire that goes to the blinkers and run them up to the third break light. It should be pretty easy to do I would think. I could probably do it in a half hour or so.

and year a 3rd brake light technically is needed its been a mandatory rule since like 91 or 92 i shaved the whole trunk on my cavalier but the third brake light was in the back window

yeah but if you want to retain cruise control without a resistor then you have to keep in the middle brake light bulb!

According to cops here its not

Ive asked many times. Once when I was pulled over, and once in a court of law. They all said if I wanted I could just have it removed, and it wouldn't matter.

Which is why mine on my black 06 SS was blacked out with vinyl and you couldn't see it.

Your hillbilly cops must not know the law!

I wish cops around here were that dumb or I would have gotten my CF trunk without the 3rd brake light and key hole.
