Alcantara accents? 2.0 LSJ
Alcantara accents? 2.0 LSJ
Alright, I'm looking for an expert on custom interiors (ie fabric). So basically the redline is full of f-ugly plastic dark gray/black panels (inside and out
) but I was thinking about upgrading some of the panels and doing some accent pieces in alcantara which is a suede like synthetic leather that's used in a lot of higher end cars to make it look better.
So my question is how would you suggest I do this? The old wrap and tack (or glue) or what? I don't think I want seams on any panels except where necessary. Naturally this stuff is 25 bucks a yard so it's going to be done in stages. First I'll start out with the door panels and maybe change the boots; then do the other panels.
Operative question is: what's the easiest way to do the steering wheel without making it look stupid? I was going to actually do that as a traditional cover maybe lace up because I'm not sure I can do a "factory equivalent" wrap on it and I've seen the lace up steering wheel covers before.
As for colors I was going to do charcoal gray with red stitching where necessary (for seams). I have a silver metallic car btw.
Should I go for two tone (charcoal gray and maybe dark blue or dark green or possibly a tan color)? I'm not going to touch the recaros but they're blue and black 05 seats for reference.
Throw your ideas to the wall...besides the "buy a new car". Is this too big a project for an auto interior noob? Anyone done some interior alterations that are not paint (the panels are "grained" so that's just not happening?

I'm going to start doing it eventually may take a while to get everything together. I'm headed toward charcoal gray for the major panels and tan/beige for the accents (like cluster)...it should look pretty good. Now where do I find that material that's not ebay!?!
