Another Tint My Tail Lights Question

I was wanting to buy this and was wondering if I use this, would I still have to sand and gloss? Or do I sand before spraying?

http://www.modernperformance.com/product_info.php?cPath=246_254&products_id=1779&os Csid=fc7b04000b873ba5971daec7dfb74ee9

Is this a good tinter? If not, what is a good spray?

I actually used it today on an old taillight i had, just to see what it would look like before i did mine, and this stuff is great....U cant go on too heavy, because it does run a little bit..But do a couple coats, sand it, and polish it and it looks great...

vht, you're good to go. 25$ isn't bad for two cans. i think i paid 17 shipped for one can a few yrs ago.

edit: as he said above, very light coats applied 2 or 3 times until satisfied. and let dry completely and wet sand lightly between coats. then apply 3 or 4 light coats of clear coat to restore the shine.

So, you just spray a couple of coats, then let it dry. Then more coats for desired color, then sand and polish with clear coat?

EDIT: Should've let him say his post before I quoted.

Yeah...The more coats the darker..I didnt wet sand in between coats, i waited till the end...But i like the way it came out....And then clear it for some nice shiney smoked tails.... I'm gonna try and do my tails this weekend, and hopefully get some pix up..I'm just trying to figure out if i wanna do tail and the 3rd tinted, or just the tails and then color match the 3rd sunburst.....Decisions, Decisions

try the sunburst...if it doesn't work out then remove the paint and tint. if you have problems with getting the paint off try using brake fluid. but be carefull with it cuz if you leave brake fluid on it for way too long it will eat it. get a cloth with fluid on it and rub the paint off then use a cleaner like 401 or isoprophol alcohol.

Prepping anything you're painting is the most time consuming & important part. The painting/tinting is easy.

Make sure you do a good job sanding the lights down where you want the tint spray to stick well. I put about 3 coats of night shades(15 minutes in between each coat) and then 4 coats of clear coat. You can't even see the sanding marks at all & the lights aren't blacked out, they're a really dark red.

When you say prepping, you mean sanding everything down really well right?

sanding and cleaning, on little projects ive always used a glass cleaner like windex to clean the surface. if you clean i well enough there shouldnt be much, if anything to sand.

yo man, if you wana do em yourself...

1. sand down your tail lights with 1500-2000 grit sand paper.
2. used some rubbing alcohol and a micro fiber cloth to remove any oils left from you fingers, and debris.
3. do a light coat first.. let it sit for about 2-3 minutes. if you dont, the paint will run once you start applying other coats.
4. repeat step 3, til you get the desired darkness.
5. once your done, apply 2-3 coats of clear coat.
6. give it about 1-2 hours to fully sit, and dry.

if there are any imperfections in the paint, wet sand it with 2000-2500 grit sand paper.. then buff it to a full gloss.

thats what i would do if you go ahead and spray tint them.

Oh! and make sure you work in an area thats clean! and out of the way from wind cuz it can blow dirt onto the lights! just thought id point that out.

if you dont have a buffer, u can use another clean micro fiber cloth as a substitution. Probably wont get the same results, but pretty close.

Note: i edited my previous post, i meant to say use 2000-2500 grit sand paper to wet sand with.
