Antenna Issues

has anyone NOT been able to take the 3 foot antenna off the base, and just ended up shoving the entire setup in the trunk? all thats left is the rubber outside piece, and a hole, which i have covered with tape since winter.... lol i want to try to get the outer antenna off, or maybe just plug up the whole with something better than tape. the thread about taking the antenna off doesnt help, ive already tried it numerous times.
any insight on how to plug up the hole, or take the antenna apart would be sweet, i dont really use the radio (aux jack for ipod) but i like to listen to soome stuff sometimes.

You'll have to do body work and paint to cover up the hole. Most people are content to just chop off their antenna and put a little cap on it at 3 or 4 inches... not much of an eyesore at that point. In two years of owning my car, I've listened to my radio for a grand total of probably 10 minutes.

Just get a Shorty antenna, there are some that do not degrade reception all that much.

Spray some WD-40 or some rust breaker in there. I had the same problem, it will unscrew eventually. If you already broke the rivet, which it sounds like you did, grab 2 pairs of vice grips and try to unscrew it.

I soaked mine in rust breaker over night and still had to put it in a bench vice to finally get them apart. Good luck.

thanks guys i sprayed wd-40 and got nothin..... so today, just ten mins ago, i actually just took a dremel to the base of the antenna where it would unscrew.... and just took it off that way... reception is weaker tho, but at least i can use the base to plug up the whole, instead of scotch tape so now its just a quick trip to auto zone.
AND NOW i come to find out my left fog light is out....
