AntennaX Shorty Antenna - Help

Just a quick question guys since I am at work and don't really have time to search. I unscrewed the stock antenna last night and attempted to attach the shorty but it didn't fit the threads. Now it comes with a bunch of attachment studs so I am ASSUMING I need to remove the stock stud from the housing. Is this correct? If so, what did you guys use to remove the stud, I dont want to destroy the threads in the case that I want to re-attach the stock piece. I was thinking some rubber bands over the teetch of my wrench to get grip but not destroy.

Thanks guys.

bump for anybody?

Do you have an 07? If so the thread size is 7mm. Ulnike the 6mm size on the older models. All the companies say it will fit the cobalts, but you have to specify that you need the 7mm size.

Lol... aight... maybe the jet lag still had me... I'll go try it again. Thanks guys

All right guys... so I thought it was jet lag, but its not. It does not screw right on. I compared the threads on the shorty compared to the stock and the shorty is smaller. So I either have a smaller shorty (keep the ***** jokes to yourself) OR I have an 06 LT with a 7mm stud (again quiet) I believe its the latter. So, I am back to the original question. How do I remove the stud to install one of the ones that came with the shorty?

bump

" No it won't. The 05 and 06's are 6 mm, the 06 1/2 and 07's are 7 mm, that's why it won't fit...
I have heard the dealer sells a 7 mm shorty, I'd assume all model 07's have the 7mm - but idk."

Does anyone know if this is true? If so I am gonna be pissed!

Seriously guys... I have the 7mm stud and need to know how to get it off... anybody know?

So AntennaX just said they are going to send me an adapter for my model car. I guess the late 06's are different. Any of you guys with the late 06 or 07's have this happen?

I ordered the rubberized antenna from AntennaX, it came with the adapters (I have a 2007) but I think I'm going to trade it in for the metal one because the adapter isn't as wide as the base of the rubber antenna so it looks like it's sitting up on a pedestal. But he did tell me the adapter looks fine with the metal one because the base is much smaller.

He's actually really cool about it, he's answered all of my questions. He said I could send it back to him with $5 and he'll send me the metal one, he didn't even mind I threw everything but the antenna away. Still haven't quite decided if I'm going to or not, because I took the base off my rubber one and it looks a lot better...

you got a picture of what it looks like with the adapter?

I thought we could also remove the stud on the car.

I don't have one at the moment, as I'm at work, but I'll try to remember to take a picture when I get home with and without the base on it. Did you get the rubber or metal one? And as far as I know you can't remove the post.

I got the 13" rubber antenna. He already said he is going to send the adapter so I am gonna see how it looks. how long is the adapter stud? Maybe I could pull the rubber base down over the adapter

The adapter stud is about....1/4" at best guess. I tried to pull the base down, but it's not rubber and the antenna is pretty hard rubber down there so it didn't work out. I thought of shaving the base or the antenna, but I didn't want to ruin the antenna (especially now if i send it back) and it seemed like a pain to shave the base.

Just remember that the first half of 2006 is 6mm. If it was build in the second half or so it will be a 7mm thread needed.

I presume yours was built in the second half. I got mine in march and is 6mm. I've never the exact month that they changed the thread of the antenna. I find it pretty stupid personaly to change like that but eh, it's chevrolet.

I'll try to find more info and when they change the thread diameter.

Thanks, I bought mine July of 2006 with 15 miles on it. I also know its 2nd 1/2 of 2006 since I also have the stupid ass SAI hookup.

So do you know if the stud can be removed or is that permanent?

Now that I ain't sure since mine was a direct bolt-on. I have to leave this question to more experience user on unscrewing the antenna stud.

I don't know for sure, but I gave it a good tug with some pliers and it didn't even budge, so I'm guessing it's not removable.

haha, well if anything.... i would imagine it is a double sided stud just like the ones included with the set so it would screw off. I just dont want to bring a wrench or anything to it, attempt to unscrew it, mutilate the threads and have no antenna on it

Yeah that was my thought, I wrapped it in a cloth. I was also thinking it might be a double screw, but it sure didn't seem like it. I would like the rubberized antenna if the adapter was as wide as the base of the antenna...oh well.

Where's Jackalope when we need him... if anyone I think he would be able to tell us if it is removable.
