average price to have your trunk shaved

lets start a thread and chimp in on how much you pay to have your trunk shave and paint. i think this thread would help members to get an idea how much they should pay a body shop and not get rip off.

I was quoted $350 if I didn't know him....but I did so I got a little discount

I'm sure the average cost is probably going to be between $300 to $500 depending on location

I got quoted $550 at one shop, and $575 at another, to fill wing holes and lock delete.

I gave up after that. Their reasoning was they would repaint the whole trunk, then blend in the rear quarters.. They both said that the yellow on these cars is a complete bitch because it is a "tri-level" paint, or something..

He asked - "You see how the car has a strange green tint to it in certain light, that is because one of the base coats is actually green."

Might be less for different colors.. Black and white are the easiest I've been told.

Strange none-the-less.

Its probably cheaper to buy a new lid. Honestly. I picked mine up for 80 bucks, in my color. I guess I was lucky.

The junkyards are not where you want to look. They all know the Cobalt is a hot commodity, and the majority of the wrecked ones are insurance claimed for parts. I would suggest posting a "Wanted" thread about the lid-and most of all, be patient. There are traders all over that would love yours, and have wingless.

Again, post a wanted thread and see how it goes. You must be willing to travel too. I drove from Cleveland to Cincinnati for mine. It was a killer deal and the seller was a real awesome guy-I would even consider him a friend. A lot of the people here are genuine and always willing to help, some may even keep an eye out for you if you post up about it. Look for a G5 trunk to broaden your search, and get creative with the reverse lights.

Check the wing trade thread, post into it.

Good luck man, I know you'll figure something out.
Even if you don't come across a victory red lid, you could always get a different color, and save up and get it painted. Maybe even shave the keyhole and while you're at it, shave the antenna hole. That always looks great.

Idk.. They do have a strange green tint in certain light.

I was suspicious and noticed it long before I was ever notified of it.

its a non metallic yellow basecoat bro its inexpensive and if mixed properly it shouldnt need to be blended into anything. Only time things need to be blended is usually metallics b/c the gun pressure can lay the metallics down differently changing the brightness of the color a bit so u need to blend it a bit into surrounding panels depending on where it is to create an optical illusion
