Meh.. Hearing the same thing from multiple body-shops.. Is kind of, er, convincing. They've been doing this longer than I've been alive.

I gotta ask Omiotek. Iv never heard of a 3 stage yellow paint. 3 stage is used on whites b/c white basecoat coats metallics and you wouldnt see them. You need to lay the white and then lay the metallics on TOP of the white in a clear basecoat. Thus 3 stage paint. 1 coat white, 1 coat pearl, clearcoats. A non metallic yellow with a green tint is nothing but GM rallow yellow basecoat. It probobly has a touch of green mixed into the paint formula. Ford Mustang white has yellow and black mixed in it

How much Hp does a stage 3 paintjob give? and can I still use my AC?

I don't have an actualy quote, but a body shop near me did a front fender replaced color matched and installed for 500, so i'd assume that or cheaper

Perfectly said.

For the majority of our cars, we mostly have a solid base. Black is the cheapest, Red it is most expensive. Your average flat body panel takes roughly 2 hours of labor and $100 in product(buyers price, not wholesale price.) Most shops charge anywhere from $50-100/hr in labor. Also remember that what your paying $100 for in product, the shop is actually only paying maybe 20% of that because of up-charge and they buy in bulk. With that assumption, a trunk which is average size, not flat, might cost anywhere from $200-400 based on the shop.

Other factors can be: if your car has been repainted, metallics(slvr), pearls(wht), tri-coats(SRTC,) or UV damage, which shouldn't affect any of our cars.

When I did mine, I spent roughly $20 in product.

Free scrap metal, couple inches of mig wire.

Couple ounces of:
Bondo
Primer/catalyst
Base/reducer
Clear/catalyst/reducer
Cutter/polish/glaze

Couple sheets of:
Tape
Masking paper
Sandpaper 150,320,600

don't know, but its $600 for victory red trunk shave and paint. so anyone live near me or know places that i can get a smooth deck for a more reasonable price, please pm me.
so unless i can get a used trunk for $300 range or someone doing the body work for $300-400. carbon fiber trunk is my only way.

This is interesting. I will go and get a quote tomorrow for mine. The trunk swap is not an option for me because I have a G5, and they all had spoilers. I also have LBM, so it should be on the expensive end. And the final plus is there are three body shops in a row right down the street from me, so I can get multiple quotes quickly. I wanna see if a carbon trunk makes more sense for me.

Okay, so I went to 4 shops today and got 4 different prices. On the low end was $250, but they didn't inspire a lot of confidence in me, and my paint matching is sort of important to me. On the high end was $500, but that was a high volume commercial shop that makes a lot more money from insurance claims, so they probably didn't really want to do it. The other 2 were in the $350-$400 range. They were nice, new shops with a ton of nice looking cars being worked on. I was much more confident that they were familiar with modern paint colors and techniques. I made an appointment for right after the first of the year for wing and trunk lock shave.

How do you like the ride on the Megan CO's? I've been looking at Stance, Ark, and B&G.

awesome, 6kg spring rate front and rear. the RIGHT setup for a fwd car, its not too bumpy, but you can't ask for too much. its linear rate spring, so its stiff all the time, unlike progressive rate spring, it gets stiffer as it compress. it also has 32 way damper adjust, some say you don't need that much adjustment, i say why not, lol.

XC's Shaved CF Trunk was a perfect fit when I tested it out. I think it was $600ish shipped.

For what shops charge I don't blame people for refusing to get this done. It's crazy what they charge for what it costs.

$350 isn't crazy, it's a lot less than a CF trunk. And, not everyone likes the CF look.
