Question Best HID for cobalt?

Hello,

I don't know much about HID's so before I go ahead and buy I want to get atleast pointed in the right direction. I'm not looking for anything cheap just to save a buck otherwise I'll just stick to buying some silverstar ultras.

What are the best HID lights I can buy for a 2007 cobalt LT. Are there any problems with installing HID's compared to using the stock headlights such as not being able to use some light features (brights/lows), auto on headlights etc? Are they easy enough to install aka plug and play or do I need to know how to do sodering, splicing wires etc? Do most install in the stock headlamp or do I need to buy a whole new headlamp or does the kit come with a whole new headlamp? Do they all fit snug so no water or junk gets in them & doesn't look bad & no bouncing around while driving?

I just don't want to buy some junk that I am going to regret so links to good quality HIDs would be awesome because I have looked at a lot of sites but I don't know which is best or differences between them.

Thanks for the link but I have some questions.

Does this just get put where my bulbs normally go in the stock headlamp? If not I don't see where you buy the other headlamp??

What options am I supposed to pick?
- 35w or 55w?
- Bulb Type?
- Bulb Color (I want best possible lighting)
- HID Harness?
- Error Code Eliminator?
- Adaptor cables?

Do you want the best in the stock housing, the best possible with some modding? Go to ddm if you want the cheapest. If you want the best in the stock housing, go to buyhids.com or 3bspec.com. The stock bulbs are 9007. Just order a 9007 hid kit in 5000k for pure white and the brightest light, get a relay harness. Get 35w, 55w is unnecessary. You don't need an "error code eliminator" and take out your DRL fuse.

If you want the best but are willing to do some spending and moddding of the stock lights, get this.

You put the bulb in the headlight, connect the bulb to the ballast. The ballast will connect to the relay kit. The relay kit will connect to your stock wiring and your battery post and ground. Also order a bixenon kit or you will lose your high beam.

Is that safe to do? The HID's wont get 2 hot or anything in the stock headlamps and that is all street legal too?

HIDs run cooler than halogens, so you're fine there. Idk about Wisconsin specifically, but I'm sure you'll be just fine on legality, plenty of cars in my area do it and never get pulled over. Plus if you have state inspection you should pass it just fine as long as your high beams work.

Ok I am looking on the ordering page.

Option: Bulb Temps 5000k
Option: Add SLIM Ballasts - is that something I I need to install on the 2007 cobalt LT or will it fit?
Option: Type of Kit? Bi-Xenon (Low & High Beams)
Option: Lifetime Warranty? - Yes or no??

Also when I install this with the bi-xenon set do my lights work just like normal only now they will be HID & a lot brighter? I don't think I have daytime running lights but I do have the AUTO thing on my headlight stick in the car where it turns on the lights when it gets dark out I believe so will that all be ok?

The slim ballasts aren't necessary at all, and the lifetime warranty is up to you if you want the added assurance. Do your headlights light up during the day? Cuz the car should have drls, I used to have an 07 lt just like yours and it had them. Also when you install them, make sure you put the relay box (it's pretty small) on the relay harness in the engine bay, it will short out if it gets wet. The ballasts can get wet though.

Also how does this work installing because the battery is in the trunk? Where do I run the wires to get there?

Dude don't put HIDs in the reflectors. That's such a dick move. Blinds everyone else on the road. Don't let anyone fool you. They are illegal and you can most definitely get ticketed. Either get some projectors headlights of of ebay and put a DDM kit in them or if you want great performance but don't want the pain of a full retro the Morimoto Mini kits from The Retrofit Source are a great alternative and not much more money than a pair of projos and a kit.

As far as I know there isn't a how to on it surprisingly, but it really is pretty self explanatory once you start going at it. take of the fuse box cover, you will see a metal post. Use a 10mm socket to remove it, and place the positive lead from the relay kit on there, then reinstall the post. The battery directly connects to the fuse box, so it's essentially the same thing. Then connect your ground to the nut on the strut tower marked ground.

You could always contact your local police department and ask them.

Slim ballasts are not required but we recommend them as it makes mounting them easier. They are about 75% smaller then normal ballasts. Lifetime warranty is up to you. Most people use the standard 18month warranty. We cover everything in the entire kit

When you install a Bi-Xenon kit, You will have Low beam HIDs, then when flicked to highs, the bulb tilts and the light will travel farther and light up everything DRLs NEED to be disabled (07+ only!). Autolights you can leave enabled. the kit is 100% Plug-n-play. No splicing or cutting. The relay connects to a ground in the engine bay and the (+) connects to fuse box post. I suggest you read a little on our website under installation!

also I say this over and over till i die our housings do not produce glare if at all compared to other cars. If you get ticketed you will be in the 1% of people. Each car is different and its been proven over and over that our headlights are actually decent with HID Setups.

Look around, drive with them behind you. Ive installed plenty on local cobalts and even ions and if they have never adjusted the headlight level (but most do move them to make them a bit higher) They do not blind or or even cause you to say wtf Not sure how you "prove" something you have to experience. But i do agree MOST cars with HID setups blind the **** out of you..example my integra..oems suck thus why i went with ebay projectors that use a cutoff line. Im not FOR it but i am ok with the cobalts/g5s at least.

since when do people get a ticket for having HIDs? I've had mine for over 2 years...was the only car for over a year with non-factory HIDs and never got stopped once. I have stock headlamps as well...sure people complained about them, even chased me, even called the cops on me, cops have never said boo to me about them...some of them now actually have them in their personal car

What the hell makes buyhids.com or 3bspec.com HIDs better? Because they're a vendor?

I've had vvme and ddm kits for over 3 years now without problems.
The vvme kit is in my Ducati, and its always under heavy fluctuations in charge cycles. Never had a problem. Not bad for a cheap kit.

Exactly. I love my DDM. I would never pay more for an HID kit.

If i were a cop I'd write tickets for that all day long. I hate seeing them in my side view mirrors.

I too have the VVME ones...like I said had them for over 2 years now...just having a prob with them now ( not really a prob, but my left side one has turned yellowish means means its gonna die soon)

can't write tickets for something legal tho
