Question Best Method For Shaving Emblems?

Alright so I decided it would be best to give the balt a new look and shave the emblems on the trunk ( the chevy logo and the "Cobalt LS"). What is the best method for doing this without ruining the paint behind them?? I did it once on a previous car and it made more of a mess then it was worth , dont wanna mess this one up !

Lightbulb

Blow Dryer (or heatgun if you're careful)
Fishing line
Goo-Gone

Put the fishing line in behind the emblem, heat the emblem and around it.
As you're heating try to "cut" the emblem off the car with the fishing line.
Remove any adhesive residue with the Goo-Gone.

honestly bro dental floss works just as good and a hair dryer... the chevy bowtie might not come off so if you can lift it up as high as u can to get ur finger underneath one side and then rip it off...yes most of the gunk will still be there but there will be no scraping of the trunk

I had mine sit in the sun for about an hour (no hairdryer) and used a credit card and some goo gone. I didn't take off the bowtie though. if you use a credit card make sure it's an old one because if will probably get a little bent up.

I find that dental floss is a little more gentle than fishing line. Either work fine tho. The old credit card thing sounds like a good idea too.

They sell this stuff in an aerosol can at advance auto parts that works awesome! Just ask the people at the desk for adhesive remover.

Whatever man. I didn't post a link to the search page. I was the first person to answer and try to help the guy. So get off my case or kiss my ass. Either way, two tears in bucket.

Have a nice day

Credit card or anything hard to "wedge" between the badge and the car = BAD... scratches happen that way.

Search the how to on removing exterior trim, there is a video on debadging.

get bug and tar remover, put it on and let it sit for a few minutes. hit it with a hair dryer and heat it up good. take the fishing line (i found 20lbs is sufficient) and slide it back and forth underneath the badge, should cut thru the glue with EASE.

soak the remaining residue with the bug and tar remover, wipe off, heat with hair dryer and use the joint of your thumb to "roll" the glue up. hit it with goo gone to remove residue, hit it with quik detailer to make sure its clean of all goo gone...

I think the best option is to make sure to stay against the emblem not the car

Yea , doesn't really bother me....not my fault they have nothing better to do

And yea I will stay against the emblem, my biggest concern was the gunk left from the glue....the last time I tryed removing all of it , the car ended up scratched up and I am definitely trying to avoid that. Didn't think about the goo-gone

Then you're well on your way to survival here. And as for having nothing else to do...
sometimes, but mostly, it's just plain fun.

i debadged my balt last night as well..

i had my brother hold the hair dryer as i took my fishing wire (10 pound) and gently slid it behind the badge going back and forth... about 4 minutes later, the badge just popped off. there was a lot of goo left behind but the goo-gone took care of it
