C/F Hood Questions

Hey guys,

I traded my hood for a c/f RKSport ram-air one tonight. We threw it on in the parking lot we met up in. lol. I have a few questions though..

1. Do you have to "center" a hood when you put it on or anything? It's lined up a tad close on the drivers side and there's a good sized gap on the passenger. Matching up to the fender I mean.

2. The clear is a little cloudy. What's the best way to do a temporary fix? Anything?

3. What's safer for the hood? Re-clear-coating or just sanding and painting with paint? I wouldn't mind repainting the top black..

4. Maybe this is since it's a tad off, but it takes a couple light pushes to close instead of one. Is that the issue?

Thanks!

normally you do have to realign a hood so the gaps are the same on both sides, you may have to play with the fender as well to make it even.

just loosen the bolts up enough that you can move it with a lil force. to loose and it wont stay where you put it and to tight and you'll end up bustin the hood tryin to move it. paintin it black would ruin the fact that its CF. i would say go have someone sand it down a lil bit and re-clear it.

I could actually care less if the top is c/f. lol. I just like that fact that it's lighter and forces the air directly onto my SRI..

How much lighter is the c/f hood over the stock?

Is the mesh grille they insert into the scoop slot necessary for bracing or anything? To make the c/f more rigid? Because I'd rather Sawz-All it out.. But if I need to keep it I'll just spray it flat black to blend in more.. It's silver right now and it sticks out like a sore thumb..

I fixed the hood. All I needed to do was loosen up the 4 bolts and let it center its-self. Fixed it's own problem.

Pics as promised.. Notice the clouding in the close-up pic..

What's even better is that it was the deal of the century. Straight-up trade for a stock hood. haha. I just want to re-clear it so it's super nice looking..

Not in the c/f, just the clear. You can see the cloudy-ness in certain areas as well. They must use iffy clear-coat when making the hood.. A new coat and the **** will look fantastic..

A crack WILL SPREAD! I had a CF hood, trust me! You NEED to go to abody shop and see what it's gonna cost you to fix your free hood. Also get rid of the stock hood strut as its TOO strong for the CF hood. Thats why CF hoods #1 don't close all the way on the drivers side and #2 start to crack on the drivers side, too much tension. Either find a weaker strut or chang eover to an old fashioned prop rod. A great car to rob one from is a Dodge Neon, its held on with 2 10mm bolts can be cut to the length you need and bends easily and Neons are in every junk yard there is.

Hope this helps you and best of luck.

The weaker strut does use the same mounting location but the Neon prop rod is kinda up to you where you wanna mount it at. You could mount it at the same location as the strut mounts to the body of the car but the holes will be a different pattern. Then as I said above cut it and bend it how you need it.

The Neon prop rod has the bracket that it bolts to the car with that act as a hinge. This bracket is about 2 inches by a 1/2 inch with 2 bolt holes on either side and the prop rod atached to the center. Its VERY VERY easy to mod to what you need.
