Carbon Fiber sunroof weight loss plan -- for less than $350
One other note is i already have a cf trunk and hood. At worst just replacing the glass would look good. I already have a sheet of cf and it might make a nice project one day. I also have a friend who uses cf honey comb in vipers and that would be really strong but a little more work.

weight up top is worth way more than down low. also that short of distance its not going to tear. Hoods have lots of pressure on the front from airflow and underneath not to mention the hood strut etc.
My sunroof whistles like crazy and i was going to glue it shut anyways lol.
btw PRND3L i hate you for owning that kick ass car lol

This is my opinion, nothing more.
The sunroof insert tearing off - There are several reasons why it wouldn't. There is not the frontal edge that allows air underneath causing a pressure buildup like there is on a hood. Also, the lack of surface area should help in that issue.
Structural integrity - I know that PRND3L installs these professionally, but are they aftermarket? It seems to me that looking at that Bimmer roof that the factory put a bead all the way around that sunroof to help support it. Putting a bead in metal makes it MUCH stronger than a large flat piece. I actually think that even without the glass assembly the sunroof top would be stronger than the non-sunroof top because of that bead. I really don't think the roof is more safe in a rollover because of a piece of glass. If you were really worried about it, a thin metal frame would make it even more rigid and not really weigh anything.
Leaking - If you install it correctly, put foam seals, and take your time, I think you'd be fine.
Not worth it - I strongly disagree on this one. Weight on the top of your car hurts your CG drastically. If you could shave 30lbs off of your roof, it would be like shaving 60lbs off the bottom of the car. I really think it would be worth it for sure.
Would I do it - I don't even have a sunroof, ROFL!!!

my advice. don't do it.
weight saved vs time/money/effort spent. is not worth it. the real way to do it would be to get Crawford Composites 100% cf roof. or swap roofs with a non sunroof car.
i don't see a problem in doing what this guy did. however once you get to installation and making sure everything is sealed and fitting right. you are going to get stressed, frustrated...and give up. except instead of just being able to give up you'll have to reinstall everything, hopefully you don't break anything in the uninstallation process
