Clear coat repair

So i debadged my car today, all went well until the rear chevy emblem. Sprayed some goo gone on, let it sit for a minute and started taking all the residue off. After getting it all off and wiping the goo gone off, to my dismay the goo gone ate right through my clear coat, now i have a big spot where its dull/swirly and it looks like ****. What can i do? Will a body shop even be able to repair this since it pretty much ate off all the clear coat? FML

Looks like smeared glue.

Use WD-40 and a heat gun (EASY WITH THE HEAT) to remove the glue. If you fucked it up that bad, get some rubbing compound and go to town. Then polish and seal with a wax.

Worst case a bodyshop will have to reclear it.

You could also use gasoline or paint thinner and a rag, but you have to be quick about it haha, don't let it sit on there long and wash the back of the car right after it, its what I did

I had the samething when I took my back on off. It's the glue.
I used combo of rubbing alcohol and NON-Actone nail polish remover.
It took awhile but i was able get it all off.
Then after it is all off you can buff it and your never know it was there.

not true.. lacquer thinner will not eat through a catalyzed clearcoat. It looks to me like you used a really rough rag or towel and just scratched the hell out of it.. or you just softened the glue and smeared it all over the place. If it feels sticky at all.. you've still got glue on there.. just need more solvent to remove it. If you scratched it.. just buff it out. Your paint is fine

oh it does work.. i was commenting on your "gotta be quick about it" statement.. that part wasn't true.. you don't have to be quick about it and rush to wash it off... fact is it'll be evaporated and gone before you could walk over to get the hose.

Buff it it'll come out and if its damaged yes a body shop would fix it. That would be a easy fix for a shop.

After a while of wd40 and a hair dryer it looks a little better but overall still looks like **** haha. I think the towel i used scratched it up. Guess ill have to find someone to buff it. But you guys think the clear is fine? Running my hand over it feels way rougher than any other part of the car.

take the wd40 and lightly wet a SOFT towel (although I suppose the soft part doesn't really matter at this point.. haha).. rub that area.. do you see any color on the rag? if not.. you're fine and just needs to be buffed. If you see color.. yousir.. have found a way to eat through a catalyzed clear.

remove the glue with heat and goo-gone. Then buff the now fuckedup paint with swirls from your towel back to a gloss using an orbital buffer and some swirl remover.

if its this difficult. take it to someone else

erasor wheels are amazing, but i doubt people have them lol. wax and grease remover will work wonders but Goo-gone should do the same. just try not to put it on a grease rag and compound your paint with it lol
