Clearcoat Fix

Has anyone done their own clear coat repair with GM paint? My car has 148,000 miles and the quote was over a grand. I would love do it yourself suggestions on how to get it to stop peeling and look decent but not perfect. Hope somebody can help, thanks

For it to look right or decent, have it done by a professional. Once the clear coat is peeling off you can't save it. By washing and waxing the car regular you can avoid having you clear coat peel in the future. The wax will protect it from the sunband other chemicals.

I'm no expert, but my brother paints cars for a living and he has taught me alot of interesting things

Victory red. The hood is peeling as well as directly above the drivers side door which means painting the rear quarter panel. I cannot afford to have it professionally done....

I tried to stop the clear coat peeling on my '91 Z24, and all I did was waste my time. I bought some touch up stuff, peeled the flaking stuff off till it wouldn't peel anymore, went around the edge with the pen tip of the touch up, than used the brush on the rest of it. I also tried sanding it after peeling the lifted stuff off, tried leaving a bit of the lifted stuff on for the touch up to get under and hold it on, damn near everything I could think of. Nothing worked for me. I would start saving money to have it re-done properly. May cost more than you want to spend, but will be worth it in the long run.
