clearing the headlights

has anyone been brave enough to try and remove the amber reflector in the headlight where the turn signal is?

the commercials show it as being clear but today i went and saw one and it had an amber sheet over it

Not if you have an amber bulb. My GT has clear turn signals with the amber bulb in there. I pretty sure he just wants to get rid of the amber part in the assembly.

techinally they are illegal, cause DOT says that the lenses are suppose to be amber/red whatever, but I know most cops wont be a bitch and ticket yah for it.

Why risk a ticket? Just leave it... or if you really want make sure you still have an amber bulb... but it that case you might as well just leave it. Dont add a reason to be pulled over.

if i am not mistaken the law states that you have to have some type of yellow reflector on the front area. on my lancer i have a yellow reflector on the side of the bumper and not in the light area. same thing goes for my wifes neon. on my lancer the front turn signal is in the headlight assembly and it was just an amber bulb so the front always looked amber. i took some silver paint and painted the bulbs and now the front looks all clear but the bulb still flashes amber when on looks really good. i'm sure you could do something like that

It would be nice if one could get black housing projector headlights for the SS. I'm sure it's just a matter of time though. I don't like all of the unnecessary chrome on the stock headlights - for the reflector it's fine but not everywhere else.

if you bake the headlights, the plastic seal around the casing will melt temporarily, then you can open the light casing, and make your modifications, then bake em and seal em back up

you can find better tutorials if you search online, it shouldnt be car specific

okay, that's just ridiculous. yeah, it's against the law. but seriously, what ******** cop actually looks for stupid crap like that? can anyone in here really say they've been given a ticket for not having amber/orange reflectors in their headlight assemblies?

oh, and thanks tiny for the help. but, i don't know about the whole baking the casing stuff. i guess i could just be optimistic and try to wait for someone to make better headlights without the damn orange crap that takes so much away from the appearance of the car. it's just off, i hate 'em.

If they are doing a traffic stop you can count on a ticket. In fact you can count on having to provide proof that you removed them from your car and replaced them with DOT legal lamps.

Thats at least how it worked in NY. I got a ticket at a traffic stop and they had all the tickets from that stop at the same court session it was one person after another with little aftermarket add ons that are techincally illegal, but they got them all.

Hell they even tickets people who lowered their cars. What kind of ticket is that you ask? It was a ticket for nothing having your license plate X inches off the ground I know on the 2003 Xtremes they have to come up with special bracket to raise the plate up and out to make it legal for certain jurisdictions.

If you don't think you will get a ticket you are probably right, but if they do traffic stops in your area you can count on a ticket at that point.

Most of the people where getting off with no fine and $35 court fee provided they could show they fixed the offending item. At the very least dont throw out the stock parts...

I was there for riding a motorcycle without a motorcycle license. Opps

A lot of them... put it this way...

If a cop wants to pull you over he needs a reason. Unless he was shooting radar and you were speeding he cant snag you but if he notices your front plat isnt on (if you need it wee do here) or your corners are clear, now he has a reason to give you a hard time.

Next, lets say your leaving a bar, your fine to drive but nt fine if you get pulled over. In a stock car nothing visibly wrong you cant get pulled over just for pulling out of a bar with clear corners you can.

Basically cops do pull people over for it more than you think and it doesnt happen all the time becuase most people realize that having clear corners really isnt all that cool, at least not cool enough to risk being pulled over at all.

The amber usually looks good anyways.

It's up to you man. I didn't know you had to 'bake' the headlights either. Sounds like it's more of a hassel than its worth. I would just wait for aftermarket stuff.

tickets are a pain in the butt. but, the amber in the headlights just kills me. what to do, what to do? i guess i'll wait to see how aftermarket assemblies turn out and then i'll decide if it's worth it.

p.s. i said "butt. but"

you are right, but i had clear corners in my old car, and i put in clear bulbs too, they looked a little yellower cuz i had silverstar headlighs in, and i never had a problem

but what i would do, is take out the orange piece, and put in a amber bulb

or do em all up in white, and if u get a ticket, try to get a 'fixit', or just pay the $50ish fine

varies state to state... Im almost positive in CT when your lights are on the tails need to be red and I know the corners need to be amber blinking or not. Just the bulb would work I guess but why risk it? Cars look better with amber anyways
