clogged sunroof drain
my sunroof drain gets clogged once a year. i end up having to take it to the mechanic so he can clean it out. it only happens on my passengers side. my car is parked in a garage most of the time but whenever it downpours and my car sits out overnight, i open my car to find a soaking wet passengers side carpet and rubber mat. it's been raining like crazy in ny since sunday and my car was parked outside on sunday and monday nights. tuesday morning i discovered all the water. i'm guessing this happens only to the right side because it's next to the curb on a two way street and the trees are right next to the curb. is there anything i can do to stop this from happening? has anyone else had this happen to them?

My friend's Redline kept leaking from the sunroof. It was clogged up in the fenders, he said. Check that out. It could just be backed up so much it's filling all the way up to the sunroof. This way, you can just clean it out yourself instead of paying people.

These sunroofs do in fact have drains, one on each corner, they each go down the pillars to get rid of water that happens to make it past the rubber around the glass. When they clog the water has nowhere to go but inside the car.

The thing to figure out is why the water is getting past the seal and inside the sunroof frame in the first place. Yes, the drains should be open and flowing, but no there really shouldn't be all that much water, if any, getting past the sunroof and down the drain.
It rains here in Seattle a LOT. I'd go crazy if my sunroof leaked even just a little. You need to see why it doesn't shut and seal properly.

It takes about 30 minutes to unclog it yourself. All you have to do is take the headliner down, pull the drain tube out, and blow air into it with a compressor. My rear drivers side got clogged a few months ago.

I would consider it a "maintenance" thing, as much as it sucks to do. I would rather take an air chuck to it every year then have to deal with a lake in my car.

thanks for the advice everyone. it looks like i'll have to play with my car this weekend and investigate where the problem is really coming from. i don't mind taking it to the mechanic since he doesn't charge me but these once a year trips to the mechanic are starting to get on my nerves. i feel like i need to bring him donuts or pizza for doing it for free!

Same problem here... But I cleaned out the tubes and I am having the same problem. Leaks onto my floor and down the inside 1/4 window. Super annoying! I don't know what I'm gonna do.

your problem is worse than mine. mine hasn't gotten to the point where it leaks down the 1/4 window. the quickest solution is vacuuming the water out of the car but it gets annoying after a while.

I realize this is a bit old, but does anyone know how to access the sun roof drain near the kick panel/glove box? I must have a break or disconnect in my drain line because I am also plagued by water on the floor when it rains or I go through the car wash. The dealer wanted something crazy like 4 hours of labor to figure it out and fix it. I've already checked to make sure it was connected at the sun roof, I just can't see where exactly it goes after the bottom of the pillar. Do I need to pull the dash or the kick panel or both? I figure it must've been clogged in the winter, then froze and cracked or broke.
