Colodude18's cosmetic enhancements 2018

Apart from some cooling and weight reduction mods I'm also doing some cosmetic stuff this spring. So I though I'd set up a separate thread for those.

My candy yellow XXX rear swaybar had sustained some nasty rock chips over the years so I decided to repaint it and I thought why not color match it to the new Billsteins I'm putting on. Reason I went with yellow at the time in the first place was so they would match my Konis, and obviously they didn't
Thought about having them powder coated but they wanted $250 which was a little rich for my taste. So I prepped and spray painted it myself and although far from perfect, it looks 10x better than it did before.
FYI, "Schoolbus yellow" from DupliColor happens to be the same as "Koni yellow" or, in this case, "Billstein yellow"

If you get some yellow vinyl and wrap the areas that see the most chips, you can prevent a lot of them. It might not match perfectly, but you would never notice

I'll be doing a LOT less street driving now so hopefully it's wont be that bad. I thought about putting on some clear bra vinyl but on the bends but that would probably be a pain to get smooth... I might still do it. I don't need to put it back on the car just yet...

I just realized that in your sig pic your cars looks like it's Koni yellow lol

My rear Koni's were rock chipped and rusted as a result. I asked Powell if I should replace em with new Konis or Billstein and he said Billstein. I always listed to that man lol

No worries on the tails. I'll pick up the shipping if that's an issue. Or did you want to keep the option of running them as-is?

Powell got Bilsteins to work? That's awesome!

He and I were working with John Linen from Bilstein a couple of years ago to collaborate on a set for our platform, but it didn't go anywhere.

I wonder if he got back in touch with Linen and got the ball rolling or if he's fabbing his own setup or if it's Bilstein rear (B6 or B8) and Koni front?

I got the Bilstein rear B6 at his recommendation. I believe he is still working on a solution for the front. I'll still be running Koni inserts in the front until there is a better solution.

Finally got the sway bar back on along with the Bilsteins
I ordered some 3M clear bra material and wrapped both the sway bar as well as the bottom part of the Bilsteins to prevent any new rock chips. The color matches very nicely

I also installed my retros. I ended up installing three sets of Profile (aka Morimoto) switchback halos plus a 3" switchback strip as side marker. They are extremely bright in (white) running light mode and I installed a triple sequential blinker function just because I can lol. To say these were a wiring nightmare would be an understatement
I haven't made a video yet but as soon as I do I'll post it in this thread. I promise they look pretty cool.

I also painted the outer housings black to tie in better with the rest of the car (see the engine pic). These pics also show off my custom grille. I decided to delete the cross bar that used to hold the bow tie. Looks a lot cleaner this way I think. Anyways, that's it for now. Soon I'll have yet another set of newly designed taillights to post up in this thread

Very nice! You need to quit making new designs on the taillights because when you do I just want the newer design. I actually still love my 1st gens that you did. Have thought about adding the sequential option to them though.

You gonna do under car rails too? I'm doing the same powdercoat color scheme - Koni yellow on the front struts (already complete with inserts from Powell), and I still need to order the swaybar and I'm thinking about the under car rails as well.

Can't wait to see the updates on your retros and new tails, I'm going to have to get some from you once my performance upgrades are complete!

Update time!

Way overdue is the video I promised of the headlights. Here goes:

Next is the next gen halo taillights. These halo rings have multiple intensities so they function as running lights, blinkers and brakes. The 3rd brake light matches with a similar LED halo strip behind a clear smoked lens.

How did you do that grill Colodude??? That looks awsone! Did you have to customize anything or did you just buy a grill that fit? I really want to do that & want to know how it was done. Thanx man. Beautiful car by the way. T.I.A.
