Color matched hood and trunk struts

So I saw on gmpartsdirect.com that they sell color matched hood and trunk struts. Tthe hood strut is $38.50 and the trunk is $59.50 which is crazy for something that we already have on our cars but just in standard black. So I'm gonna save like $100 and just paint them myself so how exactly do I take them off?

hard to describe how they come off.. its really easy though.. just pry the metal tab on them out a little and they pop off.. mine cost like $5 to do..

im going to be painting them back to a glossy black though soon..
