custom tail lights

ive been looking at everyones custom tail lights and have yet to find one i like....

what i want to do is have the inner and outer both stay as running lights and have both light up as brake lights and turn signals

would i just be able to get another light from the outers and mount it in the inners and then wire it to the outers?

nope they are a completely different shape, the outers won't fit in the inner spots. Just get LED strings and break the inners apart and put the string of led's in the inner lights and wire them up to the outter lights.

the only way for them to match stock would be to wire up like 6 incandescent 194 bulbs have 3 light up with the parking light and the other 3 with the brake. otherwise you can do the same idea with LEDs but they wont "match"

why not retro fit an outer light into the reverse light spot and wire it into the outer lights?

i wont have reverse lights but i can find a way around that

look into the thread with the vw passat lights retrofitted in the cobalt. along with LEDs in the inner tail and a red bulb in the reverse lights you can get that exact same thing. you would just need to put some custom reverse lights somewhere and some cash into the project. the vw lights are 180 from the dealership a piece (when i wanted em)

i looked at all those, i just think it would be easier to replace the reverse light with an outer tail light and then maybe a white led strip around it?

x2. you could do the opposite and retint them both red along with the leds around

your main problem is lack of reverse and getting a visible circle in the outers. you cant just throw in more led because it will just flood the main bulb. possibly some CCFLs or something

you cant buy a pair of outers for the inners because they are too big but you might be able to get a pair of inners for the outers... then you would have the extra space too do the white led strip around it. But that sounds like a bunch of crazy ass custom work

I have been thinking of a way to do this for the past year and so far I really haven't come up with a good way to do it. The way that the OP is describing how he wants it sounds like a real hack job and it wont look very good. If you put some kind of light in the outter part of the inner housing the light will shed into the reverse light and that will give you a look that you will not like. I believe the only way to make this happen is to totally reconstruct the inner part of the reverse light. You need to have some sort of reverse light and that is really stupid of you to say that you don't really need one.

regarding the inner 2 lights the reverse and red section are seperated. so adding bulbs in the red area is no problem and people have done so with LEDs several times before

I guess your right. The problem that I run into is that I need to retrofit the reverse light so that I can match the consistancy of my passat tails.

i really dont need a reverse light at the moment.... lol flame me all u want

but no it wont be a hack job and it would look fine, i have tinted tails so i could just get a red bulb or some thing like it to replace the old reverse light

after i have a red bulb to replace the reverse light, i could wire them into the outer lights

buying a red 912 or 921 bulb is easy.
