Daily Driven Show Car?
Daily Driven Show Car?
Alright ladies and gents I have a big question here. Do you think a daily driver could also double as a show car or should I not even bother with that? This situation is kind of goofy because when I originally bought this car I had planned to keep my old car and drive it daily and do the SS as a show/track car. However my Mother needed a car so I decided to give her my old car to help save my parents some money because things are tight for them right now. So now my SS is my DD car.
I had totally dropped the idea of showing once I gave away my old car but last night I was showing some friends my recent projects on the car (painted fuel rail, coil pack cover, fuse box, blah blah) and they started pursuading me to show it tomorrow at a local show. I'm not going to do that because I actually have to give a little speech tomorrow at another function but it has resurrected the idea of showing this car. IMO, it's not really show worthy, but when I go to shows around here and see what my competition would be I think I could probably do well. I have only done some minor things to the car but some bigger things are on the way this winter. The main compliment I get with this is how nice the paint looks and how clean the car always looks. (I'm a detailing nut) So with those compliments and my friends cohorsion I am thinking of showing it.
What is everyones thoughts? I know there are a lot of people that show here and I am particularly interested in your thoughts but everyone is more then welcome to chime in. I'm not even sure what it takes to show a car and be competitive. I know I see stock and near stock cars in shows around here, but I don't know how well they do. I know around here in the sport compact classes it doesn't take much to do well. The competition is weak here and most cars have rice sprinkled on them. Any thoughts on this situation are greatly appreciated. I know it's hard to tell because none of you have actually seen my car in person to tell much about but I am just asking in general.

Yes I have done it for the past year. I have only went to 3 events but I walked alway with 3 trophies just take a look at my signiture. Here is a pic from NOPI taken by one of their guys and is posted on their website.
When I first got my SS it was driven daily and I also took it to shows. I also had a hour drive to work. I would take my rims and hood off until i had a show and between shows i would run my stock tires and my stock hood. I place in 3 shows out of 7 this year. But I bought a bone stock LS as my daily driver so now my SS sits in the garage most of the time. As long as you dont drive you car in the ground, you wont have a problem using it as a show/track car. Just gotta take care of it.
i've done it with the past two cars i've owned:

Alright, that's good to hear then. You have convinced me to give it a go. I am going to shoot for the local show this April and see what I can do. I should have my stereo finished this winter and I have a few other things that I consider essential before I go show. I need to get some nice show rims but I haven't found anything I like yet.
As for taking care of my car. I do. I am obsessive compulsive with it and I probably only put about 7k a year on it. I have 4k on it now and have only had it three months but that's because it's an election year and I drive a ton with my job for that. Once I get back into the office full time I will ride my bike to work most days. Even if I don't it's only a mile to work.
Anyone want to share some tips on how to succesfuly show a car?

Set it up so it looks nice. Like I have my hood where its only half way open instead of fully open. And make sure EVERYTHING is clean.....inside the rim...under the fender and door jams...just my few cents
